Back in January, a girlfriend of mine (also my MOH) surprised me with a trip to Vegas that she had booked for us over the Easter long weekend, complete with an itinerary that she had already thoroughly planned – is she not the absolute sweetest?? The main objective of the trip? To see the Backstreet Boys in concert! I finally got to fulfill my childhood dream of seeing them, and it was even more epic than I could have imagined.
Anyways, now that I’m back, I wanted to share what makeup and skincare I brought with me on our short trip. As far as travelling goes, I tend to bring products I know I can rely on. I hate the idea of having to deal with faulty products or products that give me an adverse reaction while I’m on vacation.
Eyeshadow – Inglot Palette
I brought this Inglot palette with the idea that I would use it for some one-or-two shadow looks. I find this to be a pretty versatile palette if you want a small palette for simple day and night looks.
Eyeliner – Kat Von D Tattoo Liner (not pictured)
My HG liquid liner that stays put for 14+ hours, even in hot weather. The long wear time was much needed for our long days!
Eyebrows – Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade
This little guy has gone with me on every trip since I bought it almost two years ago. It’s another everyday, must have product for me!
False Eyelashes – Quo Lashes
You can’t go to Vegas without bringing some falsies with you! I hate applying false lashes – although I’ve gotten a lot better at it compared to when it first started, I still find the whole process problematic. However, they definitely elevate your eye look, especially when you’re out on the town at night!
Lash Glue – Duo Lash Adhesive
This is the only lash glue I’ve ever tried, so I’m not sure how it compares to others. This is the version that dries clear – it technically isn’t 100% clear, but I still have an easier time using this one compared to the black one because I cannot for the life of me apply false lashes without getting lash glue somewhere on my eye lid, and the clear one is easier to wipe away without leaving a mark.
Mascara – Maybelline The Falsies Push Up Drama
I’m just about finished with this mascara, and when I go on vacation I usually just take whatever mascara that I’m trying to get through at the time. I have a review of this mascara here.
Foundation – Urban Decay Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup
This is my current every day foundation (review here). I dispensed a little bit into a small, empty Nordstrom sample container that I randomly found lying around in my stash. I had to saran-wrap it because I noticed it kept leaking before we left for the trip – when we got to the hotel, I left it sitting on the bathroom counter and somehow it STILL leaked – WTF?
Concealer – NARS Creamy Radiant Concealer
This is my go-to concealer because I know it has great coverage and won’t crease on me throughout the day, no matter how many hours I’ve been wearing it.
Powder – Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder
Also my current everyday loose powder. In this picture, I showed my regular powder in its original packaging, but for the trip, I decanted some of the powder into an empty sample-sized Shiseido powder container that I have kept for travel purposes.
I’m bringing two lip colours with me, a neutral and a bright. For my neutral colour, I’m bringing Bite Beauty’s Shiraz from its Luminous Creme line, which is now discontinued. It looks relatively purple swatched, but on my face it pulls more brownish and is one of my favourite darker nude shades! For the bright shade, I’m bringing Urban Decay’s Jilted from their Revolution line, which is also discontinued. Ummm…look at the picture above to see what happened to Jilted. I carry a handful of lipsticks in a small makeup bag that stays in my purse, and when I took this lipstick out of the makeup bag to pack for the vacation, this is what I discovered. It looked like I had rolled the lipstick all the way up, then smashed the lid onto it. Any other beauty lovers know the feeling of pain I felt when I saw this disaster?! I still brought it with me because I was determined to wear it, even if it meant I’d have to use a lip brush. However, this story has a happy ending – stay tuned for a post later in the month!
Blush – Tarte Off the Cuff Blush Palette
A blush palette is rather excessive for a two-day trip, but I wanted to use that bright coral shade on the left and had no choice to take the whole palette with me.
Highlighter – Makeup Geek Highlighter in Lit
For highlighters, I was caught between bringing this one and my Becca highlighter in Opal, but ultimately I ended up going to Makeup Geek because I’ve never travelled with it and wanted to try something new.
Contour – NYX Blush in Taupe
Ever since I bought this in December, I’ve been contouring every day. Another plus of this product is that because it’s just a fairly small single pan, it is super handy for travelling!
Makeup Remover – Shiseido Perfect Cleansing Oil
I don’t love this makeup remover, but just so happen to have a sample size of it, so I thought it might as well bring it.
Moisturizer – Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Night Emulsion
This is another product that I also don’t love, but again, I own a sample size of it so jyst brought it along.
Eye Cream – Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye Cream
I use this as a daytime eye cream at home, but I couldn’t be bothered to bring both a day and night eye cream on such a short trip- this one does a good enough job of acting as a nighttime eye cream when you’re in a pinch.
Cleanser – Shiseido Benefiance Extra Creamy Cleansing Foam
While I don’t particularly love the two Shiseido samples above, this one I really do love, and luckily I still have a million sample sizes of these to go through!
Sunscreen – Banana Boat Sport Performance Sunscreen Lotion
This was the sunscreen we had on hand at home, so it was the sunscreen that ended up coming with me. Because this tube was so large, I squeezed some of it into a travel-sized container. This sunscreen is only okay. I also used this on my face, which wasn’t ideal, but I’m currently looking between face sunscreens and haven’t found any that I like.
And that is it! We only packed carry-on bags, and I feel like my makeup alone always takes up half of my carry-on! We’re also doing carry-on only for our two-week honeymoon, and I’m a little afraid of having enough room to pack makeup AND enough clothes – but I can already see a bunch of stuff I brought on this trip that can be cut for the honeymoon, like false lashes. How do you pack makeup for a short trip?
