Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you all had a most wonderful and happy Christmas spent with your loved ones, and a fun New Year’s Eve ringing in 2018. May this coming year be a very creative and successful one for all of us!
Today’s post is on my December low-buy, as well as a few beauty products I received from my friends and family for Christmas. You may be surprised that I don’t often receive makeup as gifts – maybe because my loved ones know I already own too many products! With my increased time spent at the mall shopping for gifts plus Boxing Day, I thought I would have gone a bit crazy with my spending, but I actually didn’t do too badly. I managed to resist all of the Boxing Day sales on beauty products (25% off at MAC, 20-40% off at Colourpop, Boxing Day items at Sephora) by telling myself that I didn’t need anything.
Oribe Grandiose Hair Plumping Mousse – $46
I had a haircut earlier this month, and my hairdresser used something on my hair that made it super voluminous. I asked her what she had used on my hair because it smelled good and gave my hair so much oomph, and she said “Oh, we just started carrying a brand called Oribe. I used this volumizing mousse on your hair”. I knew from watching beauty videos that the brand Oribe is expensive, but my #1 gripe about my hair is that it is so flat at the roots, so anything that gives it volume, I need in my life! I have lost my damn mind buying a $46 hair product. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to achieve the same results with it at home on my own, so I feel like I wasted my money on a very expensive hair product.
Delectable Dream Cream Ultra Nourishing Hand Cream Set – $14.97
I saw this while grocery shopping at Superstore and snagged it up, as I’ve heard many good things from fellow bloggers about the Delectable hand creams. I’ve had the gingerbread scented one on my bedside table for most of the month, and the first night I wore it, my husband said, “why do you smell like spoiled chicken?” I laughed so hard, I almost cried. I don’t LOVE the gingerbread scent, but I don’t think it smells like spoiled chicken either (what does spoiled chicken even smell like? That is oddly specific). I bought the Laura Mercier Decadent hand creams back in October, but they’re kind of fancy so I want to savour them – I feel like the Delectable hand creams will be used more for my every day hand cream.
The Body Shop Vanilla Chai, Frosted Plum, and Frosted Berries Body Butters – $10.50 each
While I bought the Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream last month, it’s a little too fancy (aka expensive) for me to use on a daily basis. I bought these body butters at 50% off on Boxing Day to be my every day body butters. They’ve had the Frosted Plum and Frosted Berries scents for a few years now, but I have actually never tried them!
Even though the Sephora VIB sale was only a month ago, I still had SO many things I wanted to get at Sephora when this coupon for $20 off a $50 purchase rolled around. I was also itching to buy something because for the first time in my life, I was close to reaching Rouge status. I was only $35 away, so I thought why the heck not. However, I was well-behaved – the majority of my purchase was for my husband!
Jack Black Beard Lube – $42 for 473 mL (not pictured)
My husband told me he was starting to run low on his Jack Black Beard Lube that a friend of mine had purchased for him for Christmas last year. Instead of using my coupon to buy something I wanted but didn’t need (like an eyeshadow palette or highlighter, ahem), I bought him a 475mL bottle of the Beard Lube for $43.
Sephora Collection Crystal Nail File – $12.50
As per usual, I refused to pay for shipping, so in order to reach the minimum spend, I repurchased a Sephora Collection crystal nail file. This is actually something that I needed but kept forgetting to buy. I had previously owned the same one from Sephora (in pink) and somehow my mom managed to snap it in half! It’s still useable but my mom kept it, and so I’ve been going the last 8 months or so without a nail file.
The Sephora order also came with some samples (Boscia Tsubaki Cleansing Oil-Gel, Living Proof Nourising Oil, Origins High-Potency Night-A-Mins), as well a Sephora collection mini brush for reaching Rouge status. I also redeemed points to get a Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon in the shade Leche.
A friend of mine gifted this to me for Christmas. This is so perfect, since I’ve been really curious to try the LipSense products, but didn’t know any sellers. I’m both afraid and excited to try it – I want to see if it lasts as long as it’s supposed to, but I’m also scared it’s going to completely dry out my lips!
Environ Skincare Samples
Another friend of mine gave me a set of sample products as a side gift – it is a set of skincare products from a company called Environ. My friend only uses their products, and she has ridiculously perfect skin. I’m hoping the samples will do the same for my skin, hehe!
Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette
As promised, I did not buy any palettes this month, but I DID put one on my wish list and my husband bought it for me. Is this considered cheating? I’m going to say no. I’m super excited to start using this but haven’t had the heart to dip my brush and ruin the pristine shadows yet. Does anyone else have this problem?
In total, I spent $128 on beauty products this month. My budget for this month was $100, and since I didn’t buy any makeup, I technically spent $0 on my low-buy, haha! What did you buy in December? Did you succumb to all the fantastic deals and get yourself some awesome products?
