July-December Empties

Today, I’m sharing with you all of the products I finished up in the last half of the year. I honestly thought I had finished a ton of products in the last six months, but when I went into my Empties bag and actually counted, it was not a lot at all! I did come to the realization that I throw away a lot of products out of habit instead of remembering to keep them, particularly sheet mask packages and samples, but at the end of the day those would probably only account for an additional 10 items to my empties.

As usual, it took me 6 months to use the amount of products that someone normally uses in half a month, but I still wanted to quickly share what I thought of these products.

Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Soy Milk and Honey Whipped Body Butter

This body butter is AMAZING. I love the coconut scent, I love the whipped texture, I love how moisturizing it is – I basically love everything about this. I would probably buy this over and over again if it wasn’t so expensive ($51 for 226 g). Some people only use this for the winter because it’s too thick for the summer, but I love it for all year round.

Repurchase: Yes

Victoria’s Secret Aqua Kiss Fragrance Lotion

This smells pretty nice but the formula is quite thin, and not quite moisturizing enough for the winter, at least for my dry skin. I prefer the BBW body lotions, and in general feel that there are better body available for the same price or cheaper.

Soap & Body Flake Away Body Scrub

I was so confused when I first started using this body scrub because the scent was so familiar to me. It made me think that I had used this scrub before, even though I was positive I was using it for the first time. It took me a few weeks to realize that it’s the same scent as the Hand Food lotion. As much as I love how it smells, it wasn’t my favourite scrub. First of all, it’s a salt scrub and it stung every time I had a cut on my hand, plus it’s not as exfoliating as I normally prefer my body scrubs to be. On the plus side, I did find it to be quite moisturizing.

Victoria’s Secret Vanilla Lace Hydrating Body Lotion

Even though this is labelled as a body lotion, I used it as a hand cream that I kept in my purse due to the size. There was nothing special about this product, although I did find it thicker and more moisturizing than the Aqua Kiss fragrance lotion. The scent of vanilla is nice but rather synthetic.

Bath and Body Works Tiki Mango Mai Tai Shea & Vitamin E Shower Gel

As you can see by the three BBW shower gels I finished in this last half a year, these are a staple for in my shower routine. I really liked this scent – I think I’ve run out of the tropical ones they have every summer, so I’ll definitely be picking more up when they start coming out in the spring and summer.

Repurchase: Yes

Bath and Body Works Golden Pineapple Luau Shea & Vitamin E Shower Gel

This particular pineapple scents smells so wonderful! I think out of the three BBW shower gels I finished, this one was my favourite.

Repurchase: Yes

Bath and Body Works Magic in the Air Shea & Vitamin E Shower Gel

While I enjoyed this scent in stores, I got sick of it real quick once I started using it. I couldn’t really distinguish what it smells like, but the description is “a blend of almond flower, white iris & whipped vanilla”. I’ve realized in the past year that I prefer fruity scents to generic floral/perfumey/soapy scents like this one.

Repurchase: No

Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara

This was a Christmas gift from last year, and I finally opened it to use in September. I know a lot of people rave about this mascara, and I would give it a 7/10 – it gave me decent length and volume, but I think of it more as an every day mascara rather than one that gives a lot of drama. At $34.50, it’s quite pricey and I’m not sure if I would buy it.

Repurchase: No

L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara

This mascara exploded onto the beauty scene this year and seems to be a very popular pick as the 2017 mascara favourite for a lot of people. I did a post comparing this to the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara here. Like many other beauty lovers out there, I really enjoyed this mascara and would purchase it over the BTS in a heartbeat.

Repurchase: Yes

Jack Black Lip Balm (x2)

I have been using these lip balms for YEARS, ever since I first heard about them on Temptalia. I’ve always had one on my bedside table, one in my purse, and one on my desk at work. These two I finished in the last half of 2017, and I’m currently trying to finish the rest of my stock so that I can start trying out new brands of lip balm.

Repurchase: Maybe

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper

This is an HG product for me; I’ve probably used up at least half a dozen of these. I find the brush tip very easy to use, and the formula is pigmented and so dark. I’m currently trying out another liquid liner, but I’ll probably always come back to this one.

Repurchase: Yes

Anastasia Brow Wiz

The Brow Wiz is really a standout brow pencil; the formula is smooth and pigmented, and the tip is very precise. I just wish it wasn’t so expensive! A few weeks ago, I wrote a blog post comparing this to the NYX Micro Brow here.

Repurchase: Maybe

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard

This has been my HG mascara for a few years now; I find it to be a medium coverage concealer that is great at for both spot concealing and for using under the eyes. I am currently trying something new, but similar to the KVD Tattoo Liner, I have a feeling that I’ll always come back to this one.

Repurchase: Yes

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye Cream

I received this eye cream from Stashy at the beginning of 2016, but I actually didn’t start using it until late 2016. I mostly use this as a daytime eye cream because makeup sits well on top of it, but for the last few months, I used it as a night eye cream as well as it worked fairly well. I have a few other eye creams to go through right now, but this is one that I will 100% repurchase! Big thanks to Stashy for introducing this to me

Repurchase: Yes

MAC Cleanse Off Oil

If you’ve read my blog for a while, you’ll know that this is another HG for me that I’ve used for almost 10 years – I have probably used up about close to 20 of these by now. I’ve been trying other cleansing oils, but haven’t seemed to find one I like as much as this one.  I love the thinner consistency of this, as well as the slight fragrance. Most importantly, it removes my makeup quickly and completely. I honestly cannot live without this product in my skincare routine.

Repurchase: Yes

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream

While I think that different moisturizers cater to different skin types, I actually think this would suit most skin types unless your skin is on the extreme ends of the spectrum and is extremely dry or oily. I really enjoyed using this on my dry skin – it’s lightweight but still hydrating, and fragrance free – something I didn’t think bothered me until I started using this moisturizer. I have a review of this cream here.

Repurchase: Yes

And that’s it! 16 products from the last six months, haha. Have you used any of these products, and what did you think of them?

  1. The Kiehls body butter sounds so nice! I agree on shower gels. I’m not a lover of flowery perfumey scents. I nearly always prefer fruity ones. I love the Tiki Mango scent😍 The Golden Pineapple shower gel sounds up my street. So sad we don’t have a B&BW’s here. X

  2. I love those Jack Black lip balms too. They’re so good.

FYI, a good super inexpensive liner that’s similar to the KVD one is the Essence waterproof liquid liner. I swatched it next to Trooper and the Essence one is actually a bit darker! And it costs like $3 US!

  3. You know I love me some empties posts! ❤

Now I'm adding the Kiehl's Creme de Corps onto my shopping list since I have some vouchers for Kiehl's that I collected from Black Friday! So indulgent but the $$ off will help!

Oh ouch, I hear you on salt scrubs! I tried a couple and I wasn't a fan either. Sugar scrubs all the way!

Sometimes I really hate how 80% of BBW is seasonal limited edition because I always end up falling in love with those scents. And it's always a crapshoot if they will bring them back!

Woohoo we both finished the L'Oreal Lash Paradise! It's a keeper / repurchase for sure!

I first heard about Jack Black from Temptalia too! What's on your list of next lip balm to try? I just opened the Glossier Balm Dotcom and I quite like it – the only thing is there isn't a slanted opening / applicator. It's like the Kiehl's lip balms.

I'm thinking of trying the Nars Soft Matte concealer next… there's been a lot of raves on that but I haven't actually tested it in person yet – have you?

I agree with you that the Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream could be suitable for most skin types! PS. You seem to be a Kiehl's fan, huh! 😉

    • Oooh yes girl, go get that Crème de Corps at a discount! Have you tried their regular Crème de Corps body lotion before, or just the body butter? I wonder if the body lotion is any good.

I should have read the label, I didn’t even realize it was a salt scrub until it stung my hands! Now I’m trying to decide if I should get the Sugar Crush or try something else…

You’re right, most of the BBW scents are seasonal limited edition! And the ones that AREN’T limited edition are meh. I feel like they’ll bring these summer ones back, but I think they’ve had them for 3 summers in a row so they might try to change things up? Hopefully not!

Oooh, Glossier’s Balm Dotcalm is on my list of lip balms to try this year! What scent did you get? I suppose I could live with the applicator if the formula is good. Do you like it so far? I’ve seen mixed reviews. Other than that, I’ve heard that the Kopari Lip Love is good, and I also want to try the Bite Beauty lip balm and lip mask.

I’ve swatched the Nars Soft Matte concealer at Sephora, but that’s about it…a bit curious about it too! I found it weird that I swatched Custard in both formulas and the shades came out a little differently.

YOU were the one that got me into Kiehl’s after sending me the Midnight Recovery eye cream! The three Kiehl’s products in this post are mostly everything I’ve tried from them, but I do want to try more in the near future!

      • I got the Glossier Dotcom in Coconut! I should clarify when I said that it’s like the Kiehl’s lip balm – only the tube design. 😉 The balm itself isn’t as slick / greasy as the Kiehl’s. It’s not as thick at Jack Black and a bit more silicone-y feeling – not sticky at all. The scent is very subtle too. I like it as a base for lipstick.

Oh yes, the BITE lip balm is great (in the twist up tube) but the lip mask was ICK for me. It made my lips itch and the damn tube split at the crimped end – I had to return it (my post on it here). The twist up tube one can be a bit challenging to apply to the lips since it’s on the waxy side but I find if you kind of hold it to your lips to let the warmth of your lips melt it a bit, it glides better. It feels great on the lips and it lasts on the lips longer than an average balm. Whew, that’s a LOT of chatter about lip balms LOL.

I’ve tried the Crème de Corps body lotion and while it’s good, it’s not WOW like the body butter. And yay for my Kiehl’s pushing! 😉

        • Yes, I figured you meant only the applicator was similar to the Kiehl’s! Hmm I was worried the formula would be like Kiehl’s too, but it sounds like a good contender. I can’t decide between a few scents, but Coconut is in the running haha.

Ugh I totally remember your nightmare with the lip mask! I can’t believe they haven’t changed the packaging, since you were far from the only person to complain about it splitting open from the bottom.

  4. I think it was you who I was talking to about my NYX Micro Brow incident? Anyways, I have since tried the product again a few more times, and it must have been my bad the first time – it didn’t ‘rub off’ the other times, and stayed put! I do like it but I don’t love it, although I enjoy how it looks as the day goes on.

I have never tried MAC skincare! But most importantly, I didn’t know they had a cleansing oil?! :O Will have to check that out!

I have only tried one product from Kiehl’s and that is the avocado eye cream. I need to do better! LOL. Everyone seems to talk fondly of their body care and ultra face cream. 🙂

    • Yes, you were telling me about the NYX Micro Brow incident! Whoop, I’m glad to hear it worked for you the second time around. It’s an overall pretty solid brow pencil.

LOVE their cleansing oil. Although I never really hear people talking about it anymore, so I don’t know. I have yet to try MAC’s other skincare though!

How did you like the avocado eye cream? I think the three Kiehl’s items in this post are the only three products I’ve tried from them, it just so happened they were finished at the same time haha. Their body care is really nice, but quite a bit of a splurge.
