8 Beauty Products I Love That No One Talks About

Hello again! I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s Day, regardless of how you spent it! I wanted to continue with my Valentine’s Day theme and share with you 8 products that I absolutely love, but that I never hear anyone talk about. Is this topic a bit of a stretch for Valentine’s Day? Maybe. But just roll with it, please? A lot of products are hyped up, some for good reason. For me, I feel like these items don’t get the hype they deserve!

MAKEUP

Shiseido Perfect Rouge Lipstick

Everyone talks about the MAC lipsticks, Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche lipsticks, and the Urban Decay Vice lipsticks…but no one talks about the Shiseido Perfect Rouge lipsticks! The formula of these are so stellar – pigmented and creamy, but so lightweight with a bit of shine shine. It feels like you’re wearing a lip balm, only with the coverage of a lipstick. I only own one of these in a full size and a bunch of deluxe samples from GWPs I’ve received over the years, but they all perform beautifully.

Surratt Beauty Artistique Blush

I know a lot of people do enjoy these Surratt blushes, but I don’t really see them widely raved about or featured on social media much. This is hands down the best blush I’ve tried in years; the formula is so buttery and smooth; it almost has a creamy texture to it, even though it’s a powder product. The shade I own is La Vie en Rose, although I would like to one day own all of the shades in the range 😂

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear Nail Polish

In the beauty community, the drugstore nail polish darling has always been Essie. I do love some Essie myself, but I’ve never understood why these Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail polishes aren’t more talked about! Even though this doesn’t have nearly as big of a shade range as other brands, I still own a good number of polishes from this line. The formula almost always applies evenly and opaque, with no streakiness. The wand is also big and wide, which means one swipe and most of your nail is covered. The best part is, I’ve seen these for $2.99 at the drugstore when it’s on sale. Such a steal!

Highlighters.jpg

Makeup Geek Highlighters

When Makeup Geek first started releasing products, people went crazy for them. Now, I never hear anyone talk about the brand, and I’m not sure why. Admittedly, I’ve only used the brand’s highlighters, which has made it on my list. These give me more glow than highlighters from any other brand I own; they have an almost metallic finish that’s even shinier than the ones from the queen bee of highlighters, Becca. I bought four highlighters from Makeup Geek, and my favourites are Lit (white-pink duochrome) and Luster (shell pink), both shown above.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured Creme Highlighter

Speaking of Becca – it might seem weird that I’ve put a Becca product on a list of products that people don’t talk about, considering the brand has a massive legion of loyal fans. Everyone loves their pressed highlighters in particular, but I don’t hear people talk about their poured creme versions much. I love everything about this highlighter – the formula, the texture, and the finish are all perfection, and it’s so much easier to use than any other cream product I’ve used before. The shade I own is Moonstone, which is the most beautiful champagne gold shade. It’s one of the products I’ve featured in my Project Pan, and will also be reviewing it in March!

SKINCARE

Shiseido Benefiance Extra Creamy Cleansing Foam

Another Shiseido product – this brand in general is very underrated! This is my HG facial cleanser, and I’ve gone through a number of these. I am currently using another cleanser and the tube in the photo is a backup, but I find that no matter what I’m using to cleanse my face, I always go back to this one. Like the name suggests, it’s very creamy and foams up so much as it’s worked into the skin. Although I have dry skin and people say that foaming cleansers are one of the more drying formulas, this cleanser is so gentle and leaves my face feeling squeaky clean, but never stripped of oils.

MAC Cleanse-Off Oil

I first tried this makeup remover maybe 8 or 9 years ago when I heard about it from Ingrid Nilsen on YouTube (Missglamorazzi back in the day) and I have not looked back since. Besides a small handful of bloggers, I never hear anyone talking about this product. I’ve honestly gone through what has to be almost 20 bottles of these, and despite trying many other oil cleansers, I haven’t found one that I like enough to replace the Cleanse-Off Oil. I love the pleasantly mild scent, the thin texture of the oil, and how it gently takes off any makeup I’m wearing with ease, regardless of how difficult it is to remove.

Bumble & Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Heat/UV Protective Primer

While the majority of the products on this list have been in my makeup and skincare routine for years, this is a newcomer which was introduced to me last August. My hair cannot live without leave-in conditioner, nor can it live without heat protectant. I’ve never used a product that does both of these things! In August, I had my hair coloured for the first time in a decade, and the hairstylist said I would likely need to get my hair toned the next time I went in for a cut in order to tone down any brassiness that might occur from exposure to sun and heat. When I went in for my haircut four months later, the hairstylist said I didn’t need any toning because my hair had maintained its colour, despite me blowdrying my hair every day. I attribute the well-maintained colour to this product!

That’s it for my favourite, underhyped products! What’s on your list of makeup that you love, but that people don’t talk about? I would love to know any secret beauty products you have!

  1. What a great idea for a post, I really enjoyed reading it (and now I have some products that I need to check out!)! You’re so right, I never hear anyone talk about Makeup Geek anymore (though, I haven’t watched much YouTube lately but in the bloggerverse it’s been pretty quiet!). I have their highlight palette that they did with Kathleenlights and I love it! I took it travelling with me during the holidays because it was nice to have 3 different shades to choose from or mix! They have such a great formula.

    • I don’t feel like Makeup Geek is talked about much on YouTube either – I wonder why. The Kathleenlights palette looks really gorgeous! I thought it was supposed to be a LE palette but they still have it on their website.

      • Hehe it’s nice so far. Lots of family visiting though so I haven’t gotten round to properly shopping. I’ve bought bits and bobs but not hugely yet. Also, with CNY certain shops are closed cos people are mostly off for around 10 days or so (it’s basically like Christmas…). Also, soooo many people around this time too, like I’ve been to HK many times before but the crowds are ridiculous because everyone is off and out!

Am actually in China now to visit my mum’s side of the family and the day after tomorrow, am off to a hot spa resort so that should be nice. 🙂 I’ve only just about fixed my jet lag….

  2. Shiseido is TOTALLY underrated, I completely agree!! I used to be obsessed with a powder foundation they have a few years ago and I’ve always enjoyed the brand! Awesome post idea 🙂 I might have to steal it hahaha

  3. We have a lot in common! 😉 The Shiseido Perfect Rouge, Surratt blush, and Shiseido cleansing foam! I used to own a bunch of those Sally Hansen Xtreme polishes and they were great but mine were the first generation of when those polishes were released – they got OLD and had to be tossed. Not really sure why I haven’t replaced them. Oh let me guess – so many OTHER nail polishes caught my eyes? 😉

You got me curious about the Bumble & Bumble oil primer thing. I am guilty of not really protecting my hair from heat because most products usually weigh down my hair.

I don’t have any secret beauty products anymore – I tell everyone about them! 😆 Seriously… maybe the only thing I don’t yammer on much about are makeup brushes?

    • You got me into the Surratt Blush, I think! Or at least encouraged me to get it in Toronto, ahem XD Hehe, there are SO many polishes to collect – I’ve been on a nail polish kick lately and want to get ALL the polishes!

The Bumble & Bumble heat protectant is great – I have a problem with products weighing my hair down as well but this one seems to be pretty good with that.

Makeup brushes are still a mystery to me sometimes, but I have always loved reading about your favourite makeup brushes when you do talk about it – kinda gives me a good idea of where to start!

  4. I always use the lacquer Essie (when I do not use gel polish) and never tried Sally Hansen. Probably because many praise these lacquers and many use them. After your feedback, I will definitely try this brand. Thank you.

  5. Your photos are perfection! I have never tried any of these products, but based on your descriptions, they sound very high quality. I admire and appreciate that you talk about makeup items that are underrated in the beauty community. Great job! xoxo

    • Right?! I find it so weird that everyone just dropped Makeup Geek. I’m still interested in trying their eye shadows!

For sure! I wonder what it is about Shiseido that doesn’t interest people – maybe it’s “boring”?

      • That’s what i was thinking about Shiseido too, people like that in your face packaging and what not, but the products are amazing. Plus, the big beauty influencers don’t talk about, so that doesn’t really help.

I agree with you, still interested in trying Makeup Geek!

  6. Yes I love those Sally Hansen nail polishes – such great formulas and so cheap! I have a few of them in my collection!
Those MG highlighters are stunning! I hear they’re going to be sold in Ulta soon which is awesome because I can never bring myself to pay for duties and shipping.
Adding that Bumble & Bumble Oil to my shopping list – I started using a hair oil on my ends and have seen such a difference in the condition of my hair. The fact you didn’t need to get your hair toned at your last appointment sold me! My hair turns brassy the minute I’m out of the salon. 😦

    • Right?! It would be perfect if the Sally Hansen polishes had more variety of colours to choose from, but still – you can’t get much better of a deal than that.

I wish I got to go to an Ulta as much as you do! I’m almost certain I didn’t have to pay for shipping or duties in my MUG haul, but still, I would really rather buy them in person.

Highly recommend the Bumble & Bumble Inivisible Oil, although it doesn’t really feel like an oil – more like a conditioner.
