Eyeshadow I’ve Forgotten I Own

Hi everyone! Lately, I’ve been feeling really unmotivated and find myself not being able to focus on anything in particular. All this extra time of doing nothing has given me a lot of time to dig around my makeup collection, swatching and playing with everything. Going through my drawers, I found a lot of eyeshadows I’ve kind of forgotten about. Products like blushes and highlighters, I don’t really neglect because I cycle through them often, but I have a lot of eyeshadows that I don’t really use regularly. After going through a bunch of them, I wanted to share what I found on my blog.

Inglot Quad

Inglot Quad

We don’t have Inglot in Calgary, so I’ve purchased palettes from Inglots all over the world – this one I made in Toronto, and is probably my favourite Inglot quad that I’ve put together. It’s a workhorse palette that’s perfect for travel, because I designed it so that it has everything I need – one transition shade (337), one all-over lid shade (153), one shade to deepen the outer V (378), and one highlight (395). The only downer about this is that 153 is absolutely gorgeous, but it looks kind of weird on my skintone, which is why I don’t use the palette as often as I should.

You may not have heard of Tarina Tarantino, but it was a brand that was sold at Sephora years ago. Sephora has long discontinued carrying them, and the brand now focuses on jewelry and stopped producing makeup. I snatched this quint up when they were clearing out the stock at Sephora. I seriously love it – the taupe on the right is one of my favourite eyeshadows of all time. It’s hard to tell in this photo, but the middle shade is this really interesting pale pink with a green shift to it. I’ve featured this palette in a few “Shop My Stash” posts in previous years, but  don’t think I’ve touched it in all of 2018, so I really want to bring it out again.

Teeez Spectrum of Stars Eyeshadows in Smokey Rose and Wisteria Shadow

Stashmatters introduced me to this brand a few years ago, and to these Spectrum of Stars eyeshadows in particular. Not only is the packaging awesome (they come in gold spheres), but the formula is great. The shadows are really smooth, with a strong duochrome finish. Smokey Rose is a taupe with pink flash, and Wisteria Shadow is a purple with a mint flash. I haven’t reached for these all year, either!

H&M Eyeshadow in Shiitake

I picked this up while I was in Toronto two years ago, and while I’ve heard that the H&M shadows are a hit and miss, I love how smooth the formula of this particular shadow is. They’re super affordable, too, but I just haven’t gotten around to using this single often. I wish I owned more of these H&M shadows, but unfortunately the H&M locations in Calgary don’t have a beauty section.

Lunasol.jpg

Lunasol is a Japanese brand, but I bought this in Hong Kong a few years ago. As I’ve mentioned in my Japanese Makeup Haul, Japanese eyeshadows tend to be more sheer because that’s just their aesthetic. However, I found this Lunasol duo to be fairly pigmented, and really enjoy using both shades for a simple, one-and-done look. I think I’ve only used it once, at the beginning of the year. I really need to rotate this into my routine more often!

MAC Eyeshadow Palette

I started building this palette two years ago and as you can see, I kind of…forgot about it. Not only do I have these four shadows in the photo above, but also a blush and another eyeshadow on the other side of the palette (both gifted to me by Stashy!) MAC is one of those not-exciting brands that makeup newbies don’t go for anymore, but people who have been in the beauty community for years remember how loved this brand was. I really do love the quality of a lot of their shadows and blushes. Part of the reason why I wanted to hold off on buying any more palettes this year was because I want to focus on continuing to build this palette next year.

I was intending to bring the Tarte Tartelette in Bloom palette on my upcoming vacation because it’s such a workhorse, but after going through my drawers, I think I’ve found a few quads I might want to bring instead! What products do you often neglect from your collection?

  1. I actually like the Inglot 153 on your skintone! But if your skintone is anything like mine, then I kinda understand because I have that same problem with lipsticks. A lot of colours don’t suit me so I tend to wear the same few colours on rotation.

I thought all the swatches looked really impressive and I think this is just the danger zone of buying more eyeshadow than you need – inevitably, a lot will get neglected. I can see eyeshadow being neglectful for me soon too lol I bought some new shadows the other day to play with but realistically, I don’t wear eyeshadow on a day-to-day basis.

    • It looks a lot better on my hand than on my face, I think! My face is more tanned/yellow toned and the shade looks too strikingly cool against it. But I don’t know, I haven’t worn it on my face in a while so I’m going to try again. And yes, I know exactly what you mean about lipstick shades, I’m the same!

It’s one of those things that depends on what really sucks the individual person in…for me it’s eyeshadows and highlighters, whereas I only own like 3 full-sized blushes and one foundation, but other people collect blushes, foundations, skincare, etc, etc.

  2. That Inglot quad is so pretty! I’ve never tried anything from the brand, as far as I know we don’t have one in Edmonton.
I love the look of that Teez Spectrum Wisteria shade. Hopefully you can get some new life out of these older products!

  3. My NYX single shadows get neglected a lot. I just decluttered some last night as some were colors I never use anymore or they’ve gone off/bad and needed to be tossed.

  4. Nice! I love those Inglot colours! Such a great makeup brand that I feel doesn’t get enough love.

I definitely neglect a lot of my single pan shadows, I always gravitate towards palettes when completing an eye look that I always forget about them.

    • Yes, you’re so right, Inglot needs more love! I guess it’s partly because they’re not easily accessible to a lot of people…

I feel like a lot of us are like you, we tend to reach for palettes more than singles! They do make your makeup routine a lot easier, don’t they?

  5. K wow, all those colours in your Inglot palette are so perfect! And also I’m glad the H&M shadow worked for you. I bought a single shadow from them once at their West Ed location, and I was disappointed with how chalky and unpigmented the formula was 😦 But maybe I just got a bad batch

  6. Oh man, I can relate to this!
I was *just* looking at my Teeez Spectrum of Stars Eyeshadows and thinking I need to wear them more. I’m going to put Smokey Rose out to wear tomorrow!
I have a Tarina Tarantino palette too and I love the formula so much – the one I have is called Dreamy. I wished I’d picked up more from the brand when it was still at Sephora.

Funny you should mention about Lunasol eye shadows. I finally opened up the Lunasol palette I bought in Japan and it is so… boring. The shadows are high quality but look so plain on the eyes. I can’t believe how much I paid for it and how hyped it was. Ah well!

Lately I’ve been trying to pull out some older eyeshadows out to see if they’re worth keeping around like some Elizabeth Arden and Estee Lauder quads. They’re still so amazing! I’ve collected a lot of Shiseido trios that I need to decide if I should keep or maybe depot them and just keep the shades I like. Also, I recently found a whole palette of MAC matte shadows I bought and barely used. I think I was trying to build my own version of Viseart mattes before I succumbed to the hype and bought that Neutral Matte palette. 😛

  7. Oooh these are all so pretty and right up my alley as far as eyeshadows go, I particularly love that Tarina Tarintino palette, too bad they’re not around anymore 😦 Not like I need another palette but still!

  8. All of those swatches look so pretty, especially the Inglot quad and the Tarina Tarantino quint! It’s so easy to forget about products like eyeshadow these days! Good thing you went through your collection and pulled them out again!
