My 2019 Beauty Goals (& 2018 Goals Update)

Happy New Year’s, everyone! I hope you all had a most wonderful time ringing in the new year, and I hope 2019 is a happy and successful one for you all!

Last year, I shared a blog post of a few 2018 beauty goals that I wanted to achieve. Today, I’m talking about how I ended up doing on these goals, as well as share my new beauty goals for the upcoming year! I’m SO not about the “new year, new me” thing because I totally don’t believe in it – you don’t just suddenly improve on yourself and take up all of these good habits just because a new year has come – change comes slowly and at any time of the year, not just the at the beginning of a new year. Anyways, while I don’t believe in resolutions, per say, I do believe that the new year is a good time for set measurable tasks for myself.

Without further ado, here were the goals I set upon myself for 2018 and how I ended up doing on them:

2018 GOALS

Increase the Amount of Reviews & Dupe Blog Posts

In 2017, I just hauled a bunch of makeup and posted very few reviews on them, so I promised myself I would review all of my purchases in 2018 and try to increase the amount of dupe posts. I didn’t get to doing too many dupe posts mostly because I didn’t discover many dupes this year, but I managed to get way more reviews up compared to last year. In 2017, I had 10 review posts vs 20 in 2018, which means I essentially doubled the amount of reviews I did. I know it’s not a lot compared to a lot of other bloggers, but baby steps, ya know what I mean?

Reviews I did this year:
Review: Tarte Lights Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara
Review: Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Crème
Review: Huda Beauty Lip Strobe
Review: Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadows
Review: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured Highlighter
Review: Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask
Review: Honeymoon Haul feat. KIKO Milano, PUPA, and Wycon Cosmetics
Review: Becca x Sananas Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Parisian Lights
Review: Maybelline Total Temptation Washable Mascara
Review: Farmacy Green Clean Meltaway Cleansing Balm
Review: Too Faced Born This Way Foundation
Review: Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correcting Fluid
Review: Herbivore Pink Cloud Rosewater Moisture Creme
Review: Tarte Chrome Paint Shadow Pots
Review: Physician’s Formula Murumuru Butter Line
Review: Tarte Tartelette in Bloom Palette
Review: ColourPop Super Shock Shadows & Highlighters
Review: Too Faced Just Peachy Mattes Eyeshadow Palette
Review: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Unlocked Palette
Review: Tarte Tarteist Pro Glow Highlight and Contour Palette

Declutter my Makeup

To be honest, I think I have a pretty small makeup collection to begin with, especially for a beauty blogger. Somehow, I still used to get overwhelmed with the amount of products I had. I think a large part of it was because I didn’t love everything I owned, so there was just a lot of unused makeup collecting dust. Since decluttering my collection at the beginning of 2018, I’m happy with what I have now. I’ve purchased a lot of makeup since the declutter, but I’m happy with where my collection is right now since I love everything that I have.

Finish Up My Vanity

I kind of forgot that this was one of my goals, but nonetheless have about 95% of my vanity set up the way I want it. I’m generally happy with it, but there are one or more storage pieces I would like to get before I feel like I’m completely finished with it! I’m aiming to do a post about my vanity set-up sometime this year.

Complete Two Project Pans

I did end up completing two Project Pans, which helped me use up 12 products! This is much more than I would have finished if I hadn’t participated in these Project Pans. While part of me hated doing doing them because I was forced to use the same products Every. Single. Day., a larger part of me feels very accomplished to have completely gone through so many makeup products.

Complete My MAC Custom Palette or Z-Palette

I bought a MAC custom palette in 2016 and a Z-palette early this year, and since then, they’ve both been filled with maybe only 3-5 shadows each. I’m not really reaching for them right now because they’re mostly empty, so I would like to complete at least one of them this year – I know I’ll use them more if they were full! I doubt I’ll be able to complete both palettes because that’s a lot of shadows in addition to whatever palette(s) I buy, but I’m aiming to finish at least one of them this year.

Inventory My Makeup

I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now, but in the new year, I definitely want to make a spreadsheet keeping track of all of my makeup. I do want to keep testing out new makeup, but sometimes as beauty bloggers, I feel like we buy frivolously, and in the past few years I’ve been very conscious of (trying) not to buy unnecessarily. I feel like a makeup inventory will help curb my spending!

Clean Beauty

Learn More About Clean Beauty (and maybe incorporate into my routine)

This one is a tough one because clean beauty is a hot topic. I will talk about this more in depth later, but I really want to start being more conscious of what I’m putting on myself. I don’t believe that just because something is labelled clean means that it is good for you, but all I’m saying is that in 2019, I want to make an effort to do more research and make up my own mind first.

Do More Eye Look Posts

I really want to try doing more eye looks on my blog this year. However, I feel like this is a tough one because most people do eye looks along with eyeshadow palette reviews, and I don’t buy a ton of eyeshadow palettes, so I’m not sure how I’ll go about doing this. I have a few ideas on how to incorporate them into my blog posts this year, so we’ll see how that goes. Also, eye looks are such a pain to take photos of and edit, and I’m not good at doing them. Maybe doing them more often will help me get better at it, even if it kills me first!

And that’s it for my 2018 and 2019 goals! Please share with me what your goals are for the new year, I’d love to hear all about them!

  1. Such an awesome overview of how you did with your goals! Well done on the amount of reviews. They are quite time consuming to create so 20 reviews are impressive!

The goal I’m most excited to see from you is Inventorying your makeup! As if you don’t spend enough time in your day job using Excel! 😆

I have lofty goals to be ruthless in my makeup declutters this year. The struggle is that I really like the stuff I own but I just have too much and can’t possibly use up everything I have. So I need to make the tough choices to get rid of things I just don’t reach for. I mean, what the heck am I doing with 150 blushes?! 😳

    • I don’t know how people get so many reviews up! I’d like to have more reviews out, but realistically I don’t use new things quickly/often enough, particularly when it comes to skincare.

My day job has made me love Excel! Hahaha. That was part of the reason why I loved your blog so much – so many graphs and Excel sheets, LOL. I might take a look at your inventory and get some inspiration from it!

150 blushes?! You could possibly do with cutting half of that! I wonder how many nail polishes you’re at right now 😂 It IS a struggle when it like everything you own but feel like it’s just too much clutter, though – how do you get rid of all your babies?! It’s a lot easier when there’s stuff you don’t like sitting there unused.

      • If you’re interested, here’s the post about my inventory spreadsheet with a link to the template:
It was one of the first posts on my blog! 😉

I’ve been trying to set aside a few blushes of ones that I know I haven’t used in months. So far I’ve got about 12 set aside in a baggy. I have to be more ruthless than that! My target is to get down to 50. Even typing out “50” seems silly. I honestly do not need 50 blushes in my collection!

As for nail polishes, I think I’m at close to 900 now. 😮 I’m looking to cut that down by half!

        • Oooh, thank you for linking to your post! I was just going to Google it (I imagine it would be pretty easy to find) but you made my life easier! I freaking love your template and how you have such detailed fields like price or where you bought it from. I wouldn’t have thought of that!

50 is still a lot, but that’s a really big cut, so it’s an achievement!

900 nail polishes!! How do you even have room to store them in your apartment?! No wonder you need an inventory to track them, hehe!

  2. I definitely think the inventory makeup goal is something different! Is it a case of making a spreadsheet for say, all of the blushes you own and then another for all of your foundations etc.? I think that’s a great idea to help you be aware of what you do actually own.

I hadn’t fully considered my beauty blogger goals yet but I imagine that it’d be on the lines of being more consistent with my blogging pattern and expanding the topics that I choose to write about.

    • I got the idea from Stashy, who has been inventory-ing her makeup forever! Yes, it’s going to be a spreadsheet with separate tabs for all the different categories I own, and be able to filter by brand and colour. If anything, it’ll at least help me figure out which makeup categories I keep hoarding!

I totally feel ya on the blogging more consistently thing. It wasn’t an “official goal” of mine for 2018, but I made a really conscious effort to blog more consistently last year, and I managed to up my number of posts from 47 in 2017 to 99 in 2018! What I learned was that it’s really tough to be consistent, lol. I do hope to see more of your blog posts this year, though!
