Monthly Makeup – Products I’m Focusing On in February

Hello everyone! Last year, I participated in two Project Pans, which not only helped me get a lot of use out of certain makeup products from my collection, but actually use up a lot of them too. While the satisfaction of completing a Project Pan outweighed the negatives of having to use the same products over and over, I simply need a break from them right now.

Instead of doing a Project Pan this year, I thought I would choose a handful of products to focus on each month. This idea comes from my friend Nicole from Pretty Ruff Life, who did her Makeup Focus posts for the entirety of last year. Unlike my Project Pan, I don’t intend on using these products every single day as I still want to get reviews out, but these products will be largely featured in my makeup and skincare routine for the month – out of 7 days of the week, I plan to use them for about 3 or 4 days. At the end of the month, I’ll do an update to see where I’m at with these products and how often I actually ended up using them throughout the month! Onwards to see what I’m focusing on in February:

Too Faced Just Peachy Mattes Palette

I haven’t pulled this palette out to use regularly for a few months now, so I think it’s about time I concentrate on using it. I specifically chose to focus on the Just Peachy Mattes palette in February because I thought that the month of love would be a good time to pull out this red-toned palette!

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured in Moonstone

I haven’t touched this highlighter since my first Project Pan of 2018 ended at the end of June. I recently swatched it and fell in love with it all over again. It’s not quite as metallic than the powder version of Becca’s highlighters, and although I’m all about the blingy highlighters, somehow I love the way this looks on the skin. It’s a cream highlighter so I know that one day it’ll go dry, and I want to get as much use out of it as I can before that day comes!

NARS Blush in Sin

When people say “an oldie but a goodie”, this product is that for me. This is one of my favourite blushes of all time, but I keep forgetting to reach for it. I think it’s partially because it has a bit of shimmer in it, but I tend to use matte blushes so I can pair it with highlighters. However, I’ve used it on and off in the last month and have really enjoyed it, so I wanted to include it in my Makeup Focus to make sure I get more uses out of it before moving onto pinks and peaches for the spring.

Drunk Elephant TLC Framboos Glycolic Night Serum

I’ve always been really good at using one bottle of skincare at a time until it was completely finished, but lately I’ve been opening things left and right while leaving already-opened items partly finished! This is a really great AHA, and I really need to use it all up. I feel like I’m close to finishing this up, and I think one last month of using it regularly will do the job.

Urban Decay Setting Spray

I do love setting sprays, but I’m so bad at remembering to use them. I’m hoping that putting this in my Monthly Makeup stash will help me to use this more often! My skin has felt really dry recently, so I feel like this will help my foundation settle better into my skin.

Shiseido Perfect Rouge Lipstick in RD732 Blush

I was going through my lipsticks last weekend and I happened upon this guy. The Shiseido Perfect Rouge lipsticks are one of my all-time favourite formulas – they feel like a lip balm but look like a lipstick with high shine. I haven’t touched this lipstick in the past 6 months, so putting it in my Makeup Focus will really put this to the forefront. This is also another pretty shade to pick for Valentine’s Day!

Are you participating in a Project Pan or focusing on using certain products this year?

  1. Not doing project pan (because I get too bored having to use the same thing ever single day – I need to switch things up constantly). But more “shop my stash”.

    • It crossed my mind to post looks that I create with it in my update post, but I’ve been a little hesitant just because I’ve already reviewed the palette before and already included looks there. But I think it might be a nice addition to the update post, so I think I will!

  2. I almost put the Just Peachy Mattes in my monthly Project Pan for February, but decided to use a different palette in February. It’s a fantastic palette though, can’t wait to see your progress!

I am doing a monthly project pan too because I’m hoping it’ll allow me to rotate through my makeup collection rather than focusing on the same items through-out the year.

    • Haha, great minds (almost) think alike! The Alamar palette you chose for February is stunning!

I totally agree with you about doing a monthly rotation of products instead of a full year Project Pan. Not that there’s anything wrong with those, but I found I tended to neglect my other products in favour of the ones in the Project Pan!

  3. What a great way to rotate through your products! I really wish those Becca poured highlighters were still around on Sephora… Now that I know I like cream highlighters I would have loved to try the Becca ones, especially since they always have such large shade ranges.

  4. I would absolutely love to participate in a project pan this year! I have a couple of projects that I would love to use up. I haven’t actually shopped for any new makeup recently but it would bring me joy if I could finally use up some lipsticks this year.

    • Do it, girl! Project Pans are so satisfying, even though sometimes it gets a bit boring using the same product over and over again. It helps to take progress photos – sometimes I feel like I’m going nowhere with a product, but when I look at the “before” photo, I realize that I’ve used up more than I thought!

  5. Aw thanks for mentioning me! I really enjoyed doing my project last year, I hope you enjoy it too! I found it to be such a great way to evaluate the products in my collection and get some dedicated use out of them. Similar to a project pan, it’s quite eye-opening as well – I’m going on a low-buy this year because of it. 🙂

    • Of course I had to mention you! I am definitely looking forward to focusing on certain products for one month, but knowing that I get to switch it up when the month is over. Good luck on your low-buy, I’m sure you’re going to do great!
