Pan 20 in 2020: Project Pan Update #1

Hi everyone! I started a Pan 20 in 2020 initiative at the beginning of the year, where I try to hit baby pan on 20 products during the year. I’ve decided to do an update every two months, for a total of six updates during the year, and today is my first update. Honestly, after two months of using these products, I’m not sure if I see much of a change in any of these products, but I haven’t gotten sick of the products yet, and will continue to work on them. Read on to see how I’ve done on my project so far!

I have been reaching for this blush probably 90% of the time that I use a blush, and it doesn’t look like I have made even a tiny dent in this?! If there’s one product I’m going to get sick of using first, I think it might be this one. But for now, I’m going to keep working at it and hoping that I’ll start to see a dip by the next update!

I’ve been using this every day since the beginning of my Project Pan, but now that I’m comparing my progress photos, I feel like I haven’t made much of a difference on these powders at all. It’ll definitely be interesting to see if I’ll be able to hit pan on this by the end of the year…

I use this contour shade every day – literally every single day! But now that I’m comparing the comparison photos, there is no difference between the two photos! It’s going to be interesting to see if I’ll be able to see any pan on this by the end of the year…

I only see a little bit of change on Smog and almost no progress on Toasted, but there’s been some significant usage on Virgin! I wasn’t expecting to see any pan on the three shades in my Project Pan from this palette (Virgin, Smog, and Toasted), so I was shocked when I spotted some tiny baby pan action on Virgin at the end of last week! I know I said I would add another product into my Project Pan once I was able to hit baby pan, but I think I would like to see more pan on Virgin. I’ve decided to keep it in my Project Pan and switch it out at the end of April, during my next update.

I reach for this palette 95% of the time, but to be honest, I don’t even remotely see a change in the shades I’m panning. The shades I selected for my project are Super Mom, Wanderer, and Dreamer, and I feel like the only shade that has seen even a slight change is Dreamer. I’ll just have to keep working at it!

Although I didn’t see any pan on this yet, there’s some visible change on this cream shadow. I didn’t even realize how much I used this shade until comparing it to my progress photos! I actually don’t use the other Project Pan eyeshadows with Wattles, and prefer pairing it with my Flutter By palette – it makes for a nice change in looks, actually. The Super Shock shadow pans are pretty shallow, so I think I may be able to see baby pan by the next update.

I didn’t end up using this much, because my skin was freaking out for part of the month, so I tried to cut out as much out of my routine as possible. As a result, there hasn’t been much change. I’m going to keep this in my Project Pan for now, but I think I might just take it out when I do my next update in April, if I continue not to use it.

I leave this lipstick in my drawers at work so that I can use it every day, and while the progress on this is slow, I definitely see a difference. I feel like I’m getting somewhere with this lipstick, I just have to keep working on it and remember to use it more often!

I didn’t use this too much over the last two months because I was reaching for a darker shade of this formula for the winter, but I did use Chai about a dozen times. I think it’s still going to be a while until I finish this!

I didn’t touch this lipgloss at all over the last two months, because it’s a bright tangerine shade that I included in my project with the intention of using more often in the summer. I think I’ll be reaching for this a lot more starting in April, when the weather warms up.

It’s hard to tell from the photos, but there’s definitely some progress with this lip balm – the tube is a lot flatter than it was at the beginning of January. I keep this on my desk at work and use it every single day, several times a day! This will definitely be finished by the middle of the year.

I feel like I’m also seeing some progress in this cream highlighter, but definitely need to keep working on it. I think I might see some pan by the end of June, but only time will tell! The thing with cream highlighters is that you can push product aside to the side to reach the pan, so it can be pretty deceptive.

I’ve used this quite a bit and looking at the progress photos, I can see that there’s been a bit of a dip. This highlighter is so metallic that I use so little of it at a time. I’m sure I’ll reach pan on this by the time I’m 50!

The last three products are liquids, so I marked my progress in the back with a Sharpie. Setting spray is something I always forget to use, so I feel like I did a enough job with this for the first two months when I look at the lines. I need to make a better effort of using this!

I don’t use this AHA every day, so it’s going to take a while to use. I’m making steady but slow progress on this guy, but I think going forward, I want to see if I can step up the usage of this since it’s pretty gentle on my skin.

I have stick straight hair, and only use this wave spray when I curl my hair. I cut off six inches of my hair in January, and it went from my mid-back to just below the shoulders. While I still curl it every so often, I’ve been doing it a lot less than before. I’m still trying to figure out how to do it and make it look good with this haircut! I’ve only used it three or four times since the beginning of the year.

How are you doing on your Project Pan? Have you panned anything so far?

  1. I can definitely see the difference in the Glossier Coconut balm! I reckon you’ll hit pan and create bigger pans on the Naked palette too 🙂 I was so close to purchasing Flexitarian last night but I don’t need more highlighters at the moment and like you say a little goes a long way so I’d worry product would dry up. I’ve got a similar powder shade to Flexitarian from Colourpop called Dreamscape anyway so I couldn’t justify having both.

    • You’re right, Dreamscape does look similar to Flexitarian, you probably don’t need both! I’ve heard the Super Shocks do dry up eventually, which is why I’m trying to pan them before they do haha. Thanks for the encouragement, Chanelle!

  2. I can totally see the difference in the Glossier lip balm, you are doing so great, honestly, I don’t think I’ll be able to do it so I’m incredibly supportive of those who can

  3. Great progress! My 20 in 2020, I didn’t limit myself to a certain amount of products to use up. I am rotating through my collection every month and giving myself a couple of easy wins. I’m largely focusing on my deluxe sized products to cut down my collection. So many minis take up a load of space. I bought a few palettes this year and am quite enjoying them. I am trying to pan my hourglass palette but the shades are more my summer shade, so I had to put it away until I get some sun.

  4. Powder products take the longest to pan. You see no progress, and then all of a sudden there’s a ton of pan showing. It’s kind of infuriating waiting for that point though.
I think you’re doing great on this project! I can definitely see a little bit of progress on the Hourglass palette, balm dot com and wattles super shock.

    • You’re so right, that tends to be how panning powders work, doesn’t it? It was the same way with the Naked palette shade I was trying to pan, I wasn’t expecting to see pan for another few months, and then BAM lol. But like you said, the journey to get to that point is frustrating!

  5. Well done! I can see a difference in most of the products! I have no doubts that you’ll ace this Project Pan so keep going.

How are you finding the NARS blush in Sin? To be honest with you, I have yet to try anything NARS. Hm, I might give their tinted moisturiser a go since that is something I’ll be running out of in the next 2 months.

    • Thanks girl, the encouragement really helps keep me motivated!

I LOVE the shade Sin, and it’s nostalgic because it’s one of my first high end products. I haven’t tried their foundations or tinted moisturizers, but have heard great things!

  6. Wow, you’ve made a lot of progress! I don’t see panning anything in my future. I swear those Hourglass powders last forever. I use Diffused Light every day over my regular mattifying powder and haven’t hit pan – and I know it’s at least 3 years old. I did finally hit pan on NARS Laguna bronzer, but it kinda doesn’t matter since I have 5 others that are virtually unused. Oops. Keep up the good work!

    • Oh my gosh, I can’t believe you’ve yet to hit Diffused Light after three years of every day use! I have no hope with this palette LOL. It DOES matter that you’ve hit pan on NARS Laguna, that’s so impressive! Now on to finish the other five – LOL.

  7. Ahh, the sweet satisfaction of using up products! I always love seeing progress because it means I get to buy something to replace what I use. 🙂 I enjoyed reading this update! – Carly
