Hi everyone! Today is my second update on my Pan 20 in 2020 project pan. I’m actually really excited by some of the progress I’ve seen since my last update, and I think the progress is really helping to keep my motivation with the project going. Read on to see how I’m doing!
Urban Decay Naked Palette
My goal was to pan three shades in this palette: Virgin, Smog, and Toasted. I hit pan on Virgin right before my last update in February, and now I’ve hit pan on Smog! It’s always a surprise to me every time I see pan, because it feels like I’m digging into the product FOREVER with zero progress, and then suddenly one day, you see some baby pan peeking through.
I still have Toasted to hit baby pan on, but I’m feeling positive about hitting my goal by the next update at the end of June. Since I met my goal of hitting baby pan on Virgin and Smog, I will be switching them out for two other products starting this month, which I will talk about later on in this post.
Tarte Tartelette Palette
Wanderer refuses to budge even though I use that shade three to four times a week as a transition shade, and I’m starting to get frustrated! On the other hand, I’m very sure I will be seeing some panning action on Dreamer soon. Even though I use it about the same amount as Wanderer, there’s a significant dip in it!
I’ve decided to switch out Super Mom this month. I originally included it because it was a shade I have often reached for to set my eye primer, but the eye primer I’ve been using since January doesn’t really need to be set, so I haven’t been reaching for this shade at all.
ColourPop Super Shock Shadow in Wattles
I was SO surprised (but happy!) when I hit baby pan on this at the end of April, right before I started taking photos for this post. As I mentioned on Instagram, these Super Shock Shadow pans are surprisingly shallow, but this still took me about 30-40 uses to see any pan. Since I reached my goal, I will be switching this out for a new product starting this month.
Glossier Balm Dotcom in Coconut
I left all three of the lip products from my Project Pan at work, since we were asked to work from home so suddenly – and I went back to get them! That’s dedication, right? I’m just kidding. To be fair, I didn’t go purposely to pick them up, but I had some documents that I needed to get from the office, so I grabbed these while I was there. I feel like I’m making steady progress with this guy, but looking at the progress photos, I can’t see much of a difference between the last update and this one.
Becca Glow Gloss in Tigerlily
I chose to put this in my Project Pan knowing I’d get more use out of it in the spring and summer. I finally started pulling this out in April and have used it maybe half a dozen times since the weather had started warming up. I’m so pumped to continue using this with more frequency in the next few months, but the difficult part with panning lip products that come in tube form is that it’s hard to document progress.
Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipstick in Chai
It’s no secret how much I love these liquified lipsticks – I’ve talked about them endlessly on my blog. This suffers the same problem as Becca Tigerlily, where I can’t tell the progress I’ve made. I used this very consistently from January to March, but the formula feels a little too thick and is a little too dark for the upcoming spring and summer, so I think I’ve decided to switch this out for a bit and bring it back in September.
MAC Lipstick in Twig
I didn’t think I saw much usage of Twig in the last two months, but now that I’m comparing the three progress photos, I realize that I’ve made pretty steady progress with this lipstick. I’m super determined to finish this, and I love pairing it with my cool-toned eye looks, so I’m keeping this in my Project Pan until I can finish it! I’m pretty confident I’ll be able to completely finish it by the end of September, if not by the next update.
NARS Blush in Sin
Out of all the products in my Project Pan, I’m feeling the most frustrated with this one. I reach for this probably 3 times a week, but don’t see even a subtle dip in this. A better comparison would have been to take photos from the side instead of at a bird’s eye view, and I think I would have seen a subtle dip that way, but nothing to be excited about. I’m starting to think I’m never going to reach pan!
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured in Moonstone
Halfway through March, I kind of thought that I might start seeing pan on this highlighter soon, but it’s still hanging in there! When I was preparing this blog post and looked at the progress photos, I realized it still looks exactly the same as the last update!
ColourPop Super Shock Highlighter in Flexitarian
I do see a bit of a deeper dip in this one compared with Becca’s Moonstone. The tricky thing about cream products is that you can kind of push product aside so it looks like you’ve used more product than you actually have!
Tarte Pro Glow Palette – Contour
How does this contour shade look exactly the same as it did on January 1st? I change up my blushes every once in a while, but I use this contour powder every single time I do my makeup. I’m starting to think that I’m never going to be able to pan this!
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette
I’ve been using the left and middle powders every day that I do makeup – I think there’s definitely been some progress on the middle powder, but I can’t really tell with the shade on the left. As the weather gets warmer, I think I’ll be able to use the shade on the right more often (assuming I’ll get a little tanned this summer, which is looking unlikely even if quarantine restrictions are lifted).
Becca Backlight Priming Filter
I did reach for this quite a bit in the last two months, but I’m not quite done with it yet. It looks like there’s a significant amount left on the bottom, but I think it’s just product clinging to the side and I’m pretty sure it’s just there’s only about half a dozen uses left.
Farmacy Honeymoon Glow
I’m making steady progress on this! The top line is where I started on Jan 1, the second line is where I was at during Update #1 at February 28th, and the bottom line is where I’m at now. I feel like I’m on track to finish this by the end of the year.
MAC Fix+ in Pineapple
Similar to the Farmacy Honeymoon Glow, I feel I’m seeing steady progress. I don’t use setting spray every day; in fact, I tend to forget to use it a lot. Although I am slowly chipping away at it, I don’t think I’m making fast enough progress to finish this by the end of the year, so I really have to step it up.
Verb Wave Spray
I use this solely for curling my hair. Unfortunately I haven’t used any of this since we started social distancing, because I haven’t been curling my hair at home. I’m not sure how often I’m going to be curling my hair for the remainder of this year, but for now I think I’ll continue to keep it in my Project Pan.
NEW PRODUCTS I’M ROTATING IN
Okay, so there are 5 products that I’m taking out of rotation: Virgin and Smog from the Urban Decay Naked Palette, Super Mom from the Tarte Tartelette palette, and the Bite Beauty Liquified Lipstick. This is what I’m switching in:
Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette
I have to be honest, this is a palette I rarely reach for, but suddenly I’ve realized that there are actually a bunch of shades I want to pan from this palette. It makes me contemplate doing a Project Pan on just this palette next year! But for now, my goal is to see baby pan the shades White Peach and Candied Peach.
Tarte Chrome Paint Pot in Frosé
I really struggled with whether or not I should add this into my Project Pan because the pan on this is so deep and I likely won’t be able to reach baby pan on this by the end of the year. However, I wanted to challenge myself, so I REALLY have my work cut out for me on this one! My only fear is that I’m going to get tired of wearing peach by the end of summer without finishing it, haha!
Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso
I know I didn’t switch out a blush, but I thought this blush would go really well with the new eyeshadows I’ve chosen to add to my project. Also, baked blushes (actually, blushes in general) are notoriously difficult to use, so I think it might be a tad of a struggle for me to try using up TWO blushes!
ColourPop Just a Tint Lip Crayon in Shaka
I switched out Bite Beauty Liquified Lipstick in Chai because the shade is too dark and the formula too heavy for summer. Instead, I’ve chosen to switch in ColourPop’s Just a Tint lip crayon in the shade Shaka. I think it’s a good choice because it’s a great neutral shade that will go with everything, but it’s a light, glossy formula that will work well for spring and summer.
My pan count is 3/20 so far, which means I haven’t even met a quarter of my goal. With that being said, I still feel motivated to hit pan on everything, but I’m really going to have to step up my game! Let me know how you’re doing on your project pan.
