Feel-Good Friday

Hello, beauties! Today I have another installment of Feel-Good Friday because there are a lot of lifestyle things I’ve been enjoying lately, and would love to share with you.

I started watching the TV show Shameless two weeks ago, and I’m already on Season 5! I’m the definition of a binge-watcher, haha. Shameless was recommended to me by a coworker, who said it’s a really funny show. It centers around the Gallagher family, which includes 6 kids and their deadbeat alcoholic father and bipolar mother. They live on the South Side of Chicago (ie the sketchy area), and since both parents are otherwise preoccupied, the children are raised by the oldest daughter, Fiona. The family is scrappy and completely messed up, but at the center of it all, they love each other fiercely. It is a funny show, but it’s definitely dark humor. If you’re sensitive to bad language, nudity, crass humour, or inappropriate topics, this is not the show for you!

Feel-Good Friday

Hello, everyone! January felt like a year long, but we’re already in the second Friday of February and I don’t know how that happened! It’s been a hot minute since I’ve done one of these Feel Good Fridays. Today I wanted to share my usual “feel good” things, but I also kind of wanted to chat about random things.

Is everyone out of the Polar Vortex and enjoying nicer weather? We are still in the thick of it (we’re on Day 7), and I am so over this…

I’m thinking seriously about taking a 2-4 week break from blogging and social media. If I’m being honest, I’ve been feeling unmotivated and uninspired since we came back from Japan in September, but my first instinct is always to truck through it and hope I get out of my funk instead of stopping and taking a breath. But, it’s been 4 months of me just trying to work through it to no avail, and I think I finally need to throw in the towel. In January of 2018, I started the year off with my creativity flowing and so many good ideas, but I started 2019 feeling sucked dry.

Funnily enough, the one month where I felt the least inspired was also the month I had the highest views on my blog. When you’re on a roll, you don’t really want to stop – but I think I have to for my own sanity. I still have some reviews coming down the pipe – they are all in partially written draft form, but I want to get those out before I take a break. After those are finished, I might disappear for a bit.

Another thing I’ve been thinking about lately is the way that I’ve been blogging under since I started this blog. I’ve never shown my face, shared my name, or really talked much about my life on my blog, which  has been a personal choice, but I’m really struggling with it lately for two reasons. One, I feel like it’s generally easier to connect to your readers when you get more personal. Two, there have been so many times over the years when I’ve wanted to show a full face makeup look, but I can’t because, you know, anonymity. It’s really frustrating and creatively stifling, but the thought of the off chance of a coworker finding my blog and my face plastered all over it is just…horrifying. To be honest, I don’t really know what to do about this. Do I continue blogging anonymously which is more comfortable for me, or do I start showing photos of myself for review purposes? It’s just something I have to figure out for myself.

Anyways, onto all of the feel-good things in my life recently!

Feel-Good Friday

I love me some fall colours and pumpkin spice everything, but can people please stop talking about how they’re ready for fall? The summer felt like it was two weeks long. It went by way too fast and I’m not ready for it to end! Today is another Feel-Good Friday post – read on to see what I’ve been enjoying and what I’m wanting!

THINGS I’M LOVING

14426

The Fosters

I started watching The Fosters on Netflix a few weeks ago, and I freaking love it. It’s about a family called The Fosters, made up of lesbian moms Stef and Lena, and their five children. The name of the show has a double meaning – Foster is their family name, but four out of five of their children are fosters (that they eventually adopt). This show hits me in the feels – the family has so much heart and love, it gives me the warm fuzzies.

Music

Despite being born and raised Calgary and country music basically being a birthright, I’m not a fan of country music. However, for whatever reason, lately I’ve been really into country right now. I’ve discovered a bunch of corny pop-country songs that I love: Tequila by Dan + Shay, Speechless by Dan + Shay, Mercy by Brett Young, and Marry Me by Thomas Rhett. Don’t judge, okay?

Terrace House

Okay, The Fosters is great, but I started watching the latest season of Terrace House on Netflix and I. Am. Obsesssssed. I watched twenty-four 40-minute episodes in four days, but now I’m caught up and waiting for the next 8 episodes to come out. Terrace House is a Japanese reality show about 6 strangers (3 boys and 3 girls) who move into a beautiful house together, and you follow their interactions and lives both inside and outside the house. There’s no point to the show – people aren’t trying to oust each other, aren’t (necessarily) trying to find love, and aren’t trying to win anything. North Americans may think it sounds like Big Brother or Real World, but it’s not. People on Terrace House are polite, get along with one another, and genuinely like and respect each other.

It sounds boring – why would anyone want to watch a show about people getting along? Yet somehow it’s so captivating, because interesting stuff still happens. The show follows them when they go on outings as a group or dates with one another, and also if anything interesting happens at their jobs. They are allowed to leave the show at any time, and are replaced by a new member which sometimes causes some drama (but polite drama lol). Each episode is also interspersed with a panel of commentators made up of 6 Japanese celebrities/comedians who discuss what they’ve just witnessed, and they are HILARIOUS. Last season took place in Waikiki, Hawaii, but this season takes place in Karuizawa, a snowy city North of Tokyo, so they go snowboarding instead of surfing. I loved the Hawaii season, but it doesn’t even compare to this season. I can’t sell it well – you just have to watch for yourself. The first episode or two is confusing (or at least I was confused, particularly by the commentators), but you get sucked in pretty fast.

THINGS I’M COVETING

I’ve never been one for nail art but I want these nails so much! I’m thinking of getting these before I go on vacation, but I can’t decide…

I’m currently looking for a tight turtleneck for the upcoming fall season and this one is perfect – I love all of the colours that it comes in!

I’m on the hunt for sneakers and these and these have really caught my eye. I love how the pink ones are made of fabric, but I wish it came in white!

I recently discovered Desenio and I really want to buy some prints from them. There are SO many I want to buy, but I don’t really want to go and spend $200 on prints…

This mug is hilarious – my friend and I always joke at work that we’re not in the mood to work.

Does anyone have any recommendations of makeup and skincare brands and/or specific products that I can find in Asia? Namely Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan. I will be visiting these places in the fall, and I do have a small list going, but I’m hoping to get some more ideas!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Feel-Good Friday

Hello, and welcome to another installment of my Feel-Good Friday series!

First off, a life update. Life is legitimately kicking my butt right now. My work is implementing a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) software that is going live April 1st, which means there’s 15 workdays to go and we just started to receive training on it at the end of this past week. Yeah, it’s bad. Getting training this late in the game means that we’re pulled into full-day training sessions for days at a time, while still trying to manage our regular workload. This means I’ve been working 12-13 hours every day and sometimes on the weekend, which leaves little time to do much else when I come home, other than eat, sleep, and shower. I’ve been more consistent with my blogging this year than I have been since starting my blog, and I feel like this is totally derailing my progress. With my blogging getting more consistent and me also wanting to spend time trying to get better at my new craft, calligraphy, I’ve been so disappointed. It feel like there’s not enough time in a day to achieve everything. Anyways, where I’m going with this is I might not be as active in the next little while, but please be patient with me!

Feel-Good Friday

TGIF, everyone! Here’s another Feel-Good Friday post with random things in my life right now.

What I’m Up to Lately:

Because we spent way too much treating ourselves during the holidays, my husband and I are doing a life no-buy in January (basically we can’t buy anything but necessities) and it is killing me slowly. My hands are itching to swipe a credit card on something FUN (ie. makeup and clothes)!

Things I’ve Been Loving:

black-mirror-logo

Have any of you watched Black Mirror on Netflix? When Season 3 came out last year (two years ago?), I binged-watched it in three days and then fell into a state of depression afterwards, because it’s so dark and I watched too much all at once. Season 4 came out a few weeks ago, and I was smarter about it this time because I paced myself. Black Mirror is basically a social commentary/satire on how technology can do amazing things for society, but how there is a dark side to it. We already see this today in a less extreme way; eg. social media as a form of keeping in touch of people, but also used to compare how much more glamorous other people’s lives are. Each episode is standalone, and some of the technologies they talk about already exist or are related to things that exist (virtual reality, social media, online dating), while others may be possible in the not-so-distant future (alternate realities). Although most episodes end quite dark and disturbing, a few have happy endings. It’s an outstanding show and I highly recommend it!

I have been really into drinking tea as of late. My favourites have been David’s Tea Just Peachy herbal tea and the Green Passionfruit green tea. They’re good warm, but I can’t wait to try them iced in the summer!

In other food news, we recently discovered these Coconut Clusters from Costco and they are SO delicious! It contains coconut flakes, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, and is the perfect millennial snack because it’s gluten free, vegan, non-GMO, etc, etc.  Those that don’t like the taste of coconut, stay away – this is super coconutty!

Little_Nightmares

I am not at all a gamer, but I just finished playing a video game called Little Nightmares. Back in the summer, I randomly stumbled across someone playing it on YouTube and felt I needed to play it myself. Despite the name, it’s not a horror game, but it’s cute and creepy at the same time. You play a tiny girl in a yellow raincoat and navigate your way through a ship while encountering ugly monster things. I absolutely loved the artwork, which drew me into the game in the first place). I’ve been doing a lot of research on the backstory since finishing the game since no context is given in the game, and it’s all so fascinating.

On My Wish List:

Stila has come out with some new Shimmer & Glow highlighters, and I need them all in my life! Okay, maybe not all, but I am definitely going to get Cloud, a mauvey-purple with gold shimmer.

I often leave my engagement/wedding ring on my bedside table, and my husband gets annoyed because they might fall off the table and get vacuumed up or something. I would say that’s a legitimate concern, so I’ve been looking for a cute ring holder. I’ve found these dishes from Marbella Dish and think they’re so gorgeous. Even better, they are made locally, although I still had to pay $10 shipping for them. They have ~20 different colours and I spent two hours on the website deciding which one I wanted. Can’t I just get one in every colour?!

Since I’m doing a vanity makeover, I’ve been doing a lot of research on makeup storage. Maybe everyone already knows about these except for me, but I recently discovered Vanity Collections and they have THE most amazing acrylic makeup storage ever. It’s an Australian company, so the exchange rate would pretty much be on par with Canadian dollars, but I assume that the customs charge would be ugly. Plus, the dividers are designed mainly to fit the Ikea Alex drawers, which I refuse to get (only because everyone has them). Ah well, it’s nice to look anyways. Note: the photos from above are NOT my collection, they’re photos from the website that show how you can use the dividers!

Even though everyone says that these palettes are as boring as you can get and I agree with that sentiment, I find myself extremely attracted to the Too Faced White Peach palette, as well as the ABH Soft Glam. WHY?!

 Randoms:

The other day, I started using the Snow Sugar scent from the Delectable hand cream set that was released during the holidays, and the smell brings me straight back to childhood. It reminds me of these bath oil beads that I was obsessed with collecting as a kid and kept making my mom buy. I haven’t thought of these things in YEARS. Does anyone else remember these?? I did some research to find the photos and it seems like they only sell them on Chinese websites like Aliexpress now – no thank you.

That’s it for this week’s Feel-Good Friday! What have you been loving lately? Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
