Today’s post is on a polish I wore last week, Cinnamon Spark from H&M’s Beauty range. I bought this back in May on our Toronto trip, and have worn it several times since. H&M’s polishes retail for $6.99 for 0.22 fluid ounces in Canada.
Cinnamon Spark is a predominantly orange-pink polish with a strong blue shift. It actually reminds me of MAC’s Blue Brown pigment because of the reddish tones in Blue Brown, although Cinnamon Spark is less brown compared to the pigment. The different facets of this shade were really difficult to catch on camera – it’s much prettier in real life, and the blue shift is stronger! It’s quite a unique colour, and I got a lot of compliments at work the first time I wore it.
This is going up a tad later than I hoped for, but today’s post is on my empties from July-September! I don’t know why, but it always shocks me how few products I go through in 3 months, haha. In my mind, I always think I finish more than I actually do.
Joe Fresh Nail Polish Remover
As I said in my September Low-Buy post, I don’t have a particular go-to nail polish remover. This was the first time I used this Joe Fresh remover. It got the job done, but there was nothing that stood out about it, so I don’t think I’ll be buying it again.
Delon Premium Cosmetic Cotton Rounds
I’ve used these Delon cotton pads for years, and use them exclusively for removing my nail polishes. The pads have a rough side that I use to scrub the polish off – they’re especially good for glitter polishes. I get these in a bulk pack of 6 at Costco and it takes me almost two years to go through the whole pack since I only use 1-2 pads a week! I think this is only the first package out of the whole pack that I’ve used up.
I’ve had my eye on the Essie Gel Couture polishes for the past month, and I finally purchased one at the beginning of August. The shade I chose was Sew Me, which Essie describes as a cream caramel rose. I also bought the top coat to see how the nail polish would last when paired with the top coat it was meant to go with. The Gel Couture line claims to give “14 days of luxurious wear and instant gel-like shine”, without needing a UV lamp. I was hesitant to try wearing this for 14 days as I do my nails every weekend without fail, and didn’t know how long my resolve would last before I crumbled and took the polish off. However, on Day 7, I decided to stick it out for another week for testing purposes.
I have mostly either been doing makeup posts or wedding posts, but today’s post is both of these topics combined! We just had our engagement shoot this past Sunday. Since we got engaged by the water, we wanted to reflect that and decided to do the shoot at a lake in the Rocky Mountains.
A few months ago, our wedding photographer asked us if we were okay doing the shoot at 6 in the morning on a Sunday, since apparently the period shortly after sunrise or before sunset is considered “golden hour” for photography. Without thinking, we said, “Yeah, sure, whatever makes the photos look the most flattering!” We are both morning people, but when it actually came down to it the morning of, it was a little tough. Since we had to be at the lake by 6 am and the drive out there is roughly an hour and a half, I couldn’t get my hair and makeup done that morning since no one would be available to do for me at 3:00am (lol). With hair, I needed serious help as I am completely useless with doing my own hair. I got my hair done Saturday afternoon and basically tried to not sleep on it that night.
I realized last week that my first-ever blog post was nail polish blog post, but I haven’t talked about polishes much ever since. This makes no sense, since my nails are almost always painted. Going forward, I’m making an effort to include more nail polish reviews/features!
My nail polish look for this week is Rock Oyster from H&M Beauty. H&M polishes retail for $7.99 for 0.27 fl oz. in Canada, and the new line of its beauty products, which include these polishes, can only be found in select stores. Unfortunately, none of the H&M stores in my city carry its new beauty collection (at least not that I’ve seen – I’ve visited every H&M in the city to check), so I picked this one up while in Toronto.
Summer is my favourite season – the sun is out for 15 hours a day, there are more activities going on outdoors, and best of all, I don’t have to wear pants! Unfortunately, the last week was absolutely miserable – there was always torrential downpour at some point in the day, every day, and even some flooding occurred. Nonetheless, I am eagerly anticipating the sun to come back.
Today I thought I’d share with you my favourite makeup products for summer. Like most people, I always go for brighter shades during this season. You will see that there are a lot of fuschias, corals, and blues going on! This post focuses mostly on colour makeup, as I find that my skincare routine doesn’t change all that much throughout the year (besides slathering on more sunscreen than usual, of course).
First of all, I want to apologize for disappearing for over a month. I hate using the excuse of being busy and blah blah blah, but between hell breaking loose at work (we did major layoffs last month) and stepping up the wedding planning, my brain has been too scattered to blog. Anyways, I’m really hoping to get back into a regular blogging routine.
Part of the reason why I disappeared was because I went on vacation this month to Toronto and Montreal – more on our wonderful trip in a separate blog! Today is all about the hauling I did while I was there. I was very happy with what I bought (except for two items which I will be talking about), and I feel like I didn’t go TOO crazy. With that being said, I still had to separate my haul into two separate posts, otherwise this post would be way too wordy. My makeup low-buy budget was $40.68, and ahem, I may have blown that budget a little. And by a little, I mean a lot.
For Christmas, one of my friends bought everyone in our close group of girlfriends a bottle of wine as part of their gift. However, she knows that I don’t drink, so she bought me a champagne bottle…of nail polish! What a cute idea for her to get me “alcohol” just like everyone else, but that’s not really alcohol.
Happy Monday, everyone! Or not, considering the words “happy” and “Monday” should never be uttered in the same sentence. Today, I wanted to talk about a nail combo I have been seriously digging lately. I’ve talked about the base colour on my blog twice already, but I’ve been in love with it and it’s been my most worn polish this fall.
The weather here has already started getting a little colder, and I’ve unwillingly began wearing jackets or thicker sweaters on the way to work. As a result, my makeup has also moved on to the autumn season, and I’ve been gravitating towards darker, richer colours for my makeup.
Today I wanted to share with you my Fall Must-Haves. There’s something in every category of beauty, and I couldn’t help but add in some accessories as well.
