A few days ago, I saw that the dates for the Sephora VIB were finally announced – this is something I think a lot of people eagerly anticipate each April!
In case you haven’t seen yet, the sale for VIB Rouge members extend over two weekends: Friday, April 13 to Monday, April 16th and again on Friday, April 20 to Monday, April 23rd. For VIBS and BIs, the sale is from April 20-23rd. Rouge and VIB members get 15% off, and BIs get 10% during the sale. An extra perk this year is that on April 13th, Rouge members can bring a friend to extend their 15% discount to the friend. I’m not sure how much of a perk this is, considering a lot of Rouge members probably buy products on behalf of other people anyways!
Because I don’t like Sephora’s reward system, I typically only shop at Sephora during the sales (even though I broke my own rule last year). I have a Sephora wish list post lined up for next week, but today I thought I would share with you my recommendations for the sale. There are a variety of products in here; some are ones I stock up on every time there’s a sale, a few are holy grail status for me, while others are “fun” products I’ve discovered in the last year or so. Read on for my recommendations!
I’ve gotta be honest, I went a little ham on my purchases this month. In my own defense, a lot of my purchases were replacement items, so I don’t think I actually went over my low-buy budget, but I won’t know until I do all the math! I’ve split my low-buy into two parts as some of my purchases from Black Friday have not arrived yet. This post only consists of items I got during the Sephora VIB sale.
Although I posted my wish list a few weeks ago, I didn’t completely stick to it because I realized as I was shopping that I had forgotten to include on my list some replacement items and things I had been meaning to try. The Sephora sale was difficult for me because I made it a goal not to buy any eyeshadow palettes this year, I didn’t want to buy any lipsticks until I finished some in my stash (one-in-one-out), and Stashy challenged me not to buy any more highlighters this ear…so basically for me that translated to not being able to buy anything “fun” for the sale. Still, I managed to get a few exciting items that I’m looking forward to trying.
This Laneige trial kit was an item on my wish list – I bought it as I’m starting to run out of some of my skincare, and I’ve been itching to try Laneige for a while, so I thought this was a perfect opportunity to give the brand a go.
It’s the time of the year we’ve been all waiting for! No, not Christmas – the Sephora VIB Sale! This year, the 20% off sale for VIB Rouge members starts on November 3-6, then again on November 10-15 – that’s two weekends of shopping! For VIBs and BIs, the sale is on November 10-15; VIBs receive 20% off, and BIs receive 15% off.
I’m not a Rouge member so I’m not doing my shopping this weekend, but I still thought I would share my wish list for those who DO get to partake in the sale this weekend – maybe we can get ideas off of each other’s lists! I will definitely not be buying everything on the list – it goes from most likely to purchase to least likely to purchase.
Today’s post is on the products I loved in the last half of 2016. Although most of these were not new releases in 2016, they were all products that came into my collection during the last half of the year. In case you’re interested, I did a 2016 mid-year favourites post here.
Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette
I received this palette in a giveaway from dear Robyn of Lipstick on the Lake in August, and I have been absolutely loving it since. It’s a very versatile palette, and is in constant rotation in my makeup routine. My review of the palette can be found here.
First of all, I apologize for my disappearance! I have no excuse this time, as I have a consecutive 10 days off work before the new year. I have had plenty of time to write blog posts; however, we’ve been doing renos at home, so our house has been too messy/hectic to able to take blog photos. Anyways, I hope everyone had a very wonderful and relaxing Christmas!
The last post of the year is on the items I purchased in December, as well as how I did overall in my 2016 low-buy. I thought about not buying anything in December since I was already in the red going into December, but who am I kidding! There was no way that I could’ve redeemed myself during the month, so I resigned to the fact that I was digging myself into a deeper hole. However, I’m happy to say I didn’t go too crazy this month. My December purchases largely revolved around face products, most of which I’ve been wanting for a while now.
Today I wanted to share what I picked up during the Sephora VIB sale. Even though their November VIB sale is always Sephora’s best sale of the year, I didn’t go crazy with my purchases. I was good and pretty much stuck to my wish list! The majority were items in my collection that needed to be replaced, and only two were “want” items.
I bought most of the items online so that I could take advantage of Ebates, but before I made any purchases, I visited a physical store to do some browsing and see what else I wanted to buy. I’m not much of an online shopper, and am definitely someone who needs to swatch things in store before making a decision. The last time I purchased online during the VIB sale, I remember it taking forever. This time, I ordered on November 11th and received my items by November 17th – very fast!
Anastasia Beverly Hills Master Palette by Mario Palette
At the store, I saw that the Anastasia Master Palette by Mario palette was in stock. Since I had checked online before visiting the store and knew that this palette was sold out online, I took its availability in stores as a sign that I should buy it. Although the shades are pretty dupeable, they are right up my alley and I’m really excited I got my hands on this!
Apologies for not posting regularly lately – things have been crazy. This post was supposed to go up on Tuesday, but time ran away from me!
I’ve found in the last two years that my taste in nail polishes has changed, and lately I’ve become very uninspired by the polishes I own. In an effort to minimize my nail polish collection and get rid of the ones I never use anymore, I decided to clean out my nail polish collection. Today I wanted to share with you all of the polishes I got rid of.
Deborah Lippmann Happily Ever After Set
I was given these polishes (Going to the Chapel, Something Blue, Endless Love) as a gift a few years ago. I thought this wedding-themed set was so cute. I wanted so much to love them, but the finish on these is so weird. They have a matte finish, but the polish itself contains a sheen. Sounds like a nice idea, but they made it look like I painted my nails with chalk, especially the white one. I tried these a few times, and even tried to put a topcoat on top to make it shiny instead of matte, but it just doesn’t work.
With the Sephora VIB sale starting today for VIB Rouge members, I wanted to do my usual wish list that I always do during Sephora sales. I’d meant to get this up yesterday, but alas, this did not happen. Wish lists are some of my favourite posts to read, because they give me so many ideas for my own wish list. There wasn’t a ton that caught my eye this time like in previous years, for some reason. I haven’t quite decided if it’s a good thing or not, but none of the limited edition holiday palettes looked interesting to me – at least my wallet is a happy camper!
Anastasia Beverly Hills Master Palette by Mario
Because I really need yet another eye shadow palette when I bought a palette this year I haven’t even touched…I saw this in person and colours are irresistible, though! This is no longer on the website, but it’s $45 USD (so roughly $55 CAD?)
Today I wanted to share the latest nail colour that I’ve been sporting. This is a Sephora Formula X polish in the shade Spiked, which Sephora calls “mink bisque”. Basically, it’s a medium brownish-taupe shade in a creme finish. This particular polish came from a Sephora holiday set of mini polishes, which was gifted to me by a friend during Christmas last year.
I’ve been wearing a lot of neutral crème polishes in the last year (due to a job change), and I’ve been getting really sick of it. However, one of my coworkers said this shade looked very “sophisticated”, haha. Spiked needed 3 layers for full opacity. The first layer was super streaky, which is likely due partly to the nature of neutral crème polish formulas, and also partly to the size of the brush. The second layer was generally good, although there were still a few nails that I felt needed one extra coat.
For the past month and a half, I’ve been going to the gym before work with a coworker. We have a pretty good collection of gym equipment in our basement, so I’ve always worked out at home (errr…on and off), but my coworker has been trying to get me to go to the gym with her since last year, and she finally succeeded. Girl deserves a round of applause – I’ve had friends try to convince me for years!
Even though I try to do a 25-30 minute workout in the mornings, I only get up 10 minutes earlier than the days I don’t go to the gym…it’s already a struggle knowing I have to get up and haul my lazy butt to the gym, I’m sure as heck not waking up at 5:30am to go! This means I have to cut into my getting-ready time instead. Today I thought I’d share with you the beauty products I take with me to give me a quick work-ready look.
My goal for getting ready after the gym is to make myself look awake and polished enough for work. In terms of makeup, there are five basic things I do: Brows, lashes, concealing, blush, and setting powder. 90% of the time, I do have a few extra minutes to apply eye shadow as well, although I’ve run out of time to do that a couple of mornings. My post-workout beauty routine may seem excessive compared to most girls, but it’s just what I’m used to – I’ve noticed most girls in the changing room spend 75% of their time on their hair and 25% of their time on their face, whereas I’m the other way around!
