Review: Shiseido Aura Dew Highlighter

Hello, everyone! Today, I’m sharing with you a review of the Shiseido Aura Dew, which I bought on a whim last year. I was making an order on The Bay for some Shiseido products for my mom’s birthday last year, and I needed to spend a little more to get free shopping. The Aura Dew highlighters caught my eye, and after doing some research on the product, I decided to give it a try.

THE BASICS

This multidimensional highlighter suspends ultrafine rose, silver, and gold Japanese pearls in a cushiony, transparent base that melds seamlessly with every skin tone. Its revolutionary texture ensures that this highlighter stays put for up to 12 hours without caking and can be easily layered over eye, lip, or cheek products without compromising color or adding weight. It’s available in three radiant shades inspired by Tokyo’s gleaming lights, so customizing your glow is easier than ever.

The Aura Dew highlighter is a multipurpose cream product for the face, eyes, and lips. It comes in three shades – Cosmic (Rose Gold), Solar (Gold). and Lunar (Silver). This is made in Italy, and retails for $38 CAD for 4.8 g. It can be purchased at Sephora, Shoppers Drug Mart, and various department brands such as The Bay and Nordstrom.

My Most Repurchased Beauty Products

Last week, Nicole from Pretty Ruff Life shared a blog post about her most repurchased products, and I thought it was such a great idea. Often, repurchased products tend to be holy grail status – it says a lot when makeup lovers buy the same things over and over again, especially when they’ve tried so many different products. It means that the ones that get repurchased are really top notch! I rarely buy products over and over again, so the fact that I’ve repurchased these means they’re really close to my heart.

Just as a note, I didn’t take my own photos for this blog post because I’m using a lot of new products this year and I don’t currently own a lot of these, but just because I don’t own it right now doesn’t mean I don’t love it or have bought a lot of them over the years. If I’m currently using something else right now, I will make a note of it.

Empties – First Half of 2017

I know I’m a month too late on this, but in today’s post, I wanted to talk about my empties that I used up from January to June. Unlike most people, I finish products at the speed of a snail – maybe because of my small face and small body? I don’t know. I am seriously surprised at how little I used in the first half of this year, but I think it was just because I wasn’t very concerned with beauty for a good chunk of the year so far. One of my goals for 2017 was to use up more products than I did last year, but it doesn’t look like that will be achieved! I suppose I don’t include things like shampoo and conditioner because I buy massive bottles that are too big to keep around after they are empty, but still. Either way, I still wanted to share the empties I have used up so far.

Best of the Best: 2016 Favourites

Although we’re already into the middle of January, today’s post is on my favourite products of 2016. This post focuses on my favourites in each makeup category, although there are a few categories that I did not include because I either did not try anything new in that category, or I didn’t find anything I loved during the year. A few of these products you will have also seen in my two bi-annual favourites posts.

FACE PRODUCTS

Foundation Primer: Shiseido Glow Enhancing Primer

I discovered this primer in early 2016, and although I’ve only used up sample after sample of this primer, I’ve fallen in love with it. It goes onto the skin feeling like a moisturizer, and applies smoothly without giving that typical silicone feeling that a lot of primers do. It feels very hydrating on my dry skin, and I’m really glad I still have a few tubes of samples left of this before I need to start purchasing it!

October-December Empties

Today’s post is on all of the items I used up from October to December, as well as a summary of my empties for the year. I was shocked at how few products I used up in the last last three months of the year, even compared to the usual small amount I tend to finish on a quarterly basis! I think it was because I was busy trying out so much new stuff, particularly in November and December, that I didn’t really end up using much 😛 I’ve been continuing to try using up my Shiseido samples, so you’ll see a lot of those in this post. My Q4 empties is pretty BORING, but I think my 2016 empties summary may be a little more interesting.

The Body Shop Satsuma Shower Gel and Grapefruit Body Butter

There’s not much to say about this except that as always, the Body Shop shower gels and body butters are constants in my empties. Satsuma and Grapefruit are two of my favourite scents from The Body Shop, too, so I will definitely pick up more of these as my collection of body care goes down (maybe in 2020).

Late 2016 Favourites

Today’s post is on the products I loved in the last half of 2016. Although most of these were not new releases in 2016, they were all products that came into my collection during the last half of the year. In case you’re interested, I did a 2016 mid-year favourites post here.

Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette

I received this palette in a giveaway from dear Robyn of Lipstick on the Lake in August, and I have been absolutely loving it since. It’s a very versatile palette, and is in constant rotation in my makeup routine. My review of the palette can be found here.

Engagement Shoot Makeup Look

I have mostly either been doing makeup posts or wedding posts, but today’s post is both of these topics combined! We just had our engagement shoot this past Sunday. Since we got engaged by the water, we wanted to reflect that and decided to do the shoot at a lake in the Rocky Mountains.

A few months ago, our wedding photographer asked us if we were okay doing the shoot at 6 in the morning on a Sunday, since apparently the period shortly after sunrise or before sunset is considered “golden hour” for photography. Without thinking, we said, “Yeah, sure, whatever makes the photos look the most flattering!” We are both morning people, but when it actually came down to it the morning of, it was a little tough. Since we had to be at the lake by 6 am and the drive out there is roughly an hour and a half, I couldn’t get my hair and makeup done that morning since no one would be available to do for me at 3:00am (lol). With hair, I needed serious help as I am completely useless with doing my own hair. I got my hair done Saturday afternoon and basically tried to not sleep on it that night.

2016 Mid-Year Favourites

I am the type of person that always goes back to the same product over and over again, and don’t use enough new products on a daily basis to justify doing a monthly, or even quarterly favourites. Hence, I thought that doing a mid-year favourites post for the first half of the year would be more appropriate. I discovered a lot of new products these first six months of 2016, a lot of which I liked, but not all of them I found myself going back to over and over again. In this post, I wanted to focus mostly on new products I discovered in the first half of the year that I reach for constantly, instead of older favourites which have become holy grail status for me. I also didn’t want to include anything TOO recent (purchases from May or June) because I wanted to give myself more time to try them out – if I love any of them, they will end up in my July-December 2016 Favourites!

April-June Empties

Today I’m sharing the products I finished up in the last three months. It’s been kind of interesting keeping all of my empties so see how much I’ve used in a three-month span. I’m always surprised at how little I get through! I have no idea why, but it seemed like I was particularly slow at using up products these last three months, for some odd reason.
