Friday Reflections

Happy Fri-Yay! Today I’m doing something a little different for my blog: talking about lifestyle items that have piqued my interest as of late. I got my inspiration for this post from Nicole at Pretty Ruff Life, who does a This & That Friday post almost every Friday. I absolutely love reading her posts, and while I’m not sure I have enough material to do a Friday Reflections post every week, I would love to do these whenever I have a list of items I’m interested in. Lately, there are so many things that have caught my eye.

On my wish list:

I saw these Michael Kors Nancy flats two months ago and have since been waiting for Browns to have a sale. I don’t own any pointed toe flats, so these would be a good addition to my team. The ones I’ve been eyeing are velvet, which are super cute. However, I think velvet shoes might only be a trend, so I’m not sure if I want to invest $148 on these ones. I could also get them in leather, which are more timeless but not the ones I was originally drawn to.

What do you guys think about this cold shoulder sweater ? I think it’s adorable, but are cold shoulder sweaters a weird concept? I mean, I wear sweaters to keep myself warm, yet my shoulders are exposed? I just don’t know.

I’m currently in the market for a black handbag, and this Kate Spade Emerson Place Allis caught my eye. I don’t have a quilted bag, so this one would be a unique addition to my collection. The oxblood shade is also dang pretty though – if I were to get this bag, I think I would have a very difficult time deciding which colour to get!

Speaking of handbags, I don’t really need a small fancy bag, but this  Ted Baker Calliih Bag is irresistible. The the gold hardware and bow is so cute! I don’t think I will get this one because it’s just so expensive and not something I need, but it’s still nice to look at.

I completely wrote off the Stila Glitter and Glow liquid eye shadows when they first came out. I thought they were absolutely stunning, but too metallic and glittery for any use in my life. However, I swatched these in stores and now I can’t get them out of my mind. I would never be able to finish a full size of these, but this Written in the Stars Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow Set is perfect because they are minis to try this product out. Unfortunately, this set is sold out on the Sephora website, so hopefully I’ll be able to find them in stores.

Arm Ghost Chair

Anyone know where I can find a Ghost Chair for cheap? I’m currently working on my makeup vanity/beauty room (that I’m sharing with my husband) and I’m looking for a ghost chair for my desk. This one from Wayfair for $127 isn’t bad, but I would prefer to find a cheaper one that I can see in person.

I recently went to Indigo to get some new book ideas and the book The Lonely Hearts Hotel caught my eye. The plot sounds a little confusing – something about two babies who are dropped at an orphanage in 1914, and an extraordinary circus. It sounds rather magical, and reminds me a little of the book The Night Circus, which I absolutely loved. I think this will be my next read!

What I’m Loving Lately:

My husband has gotten me into the show Quantico and I’m loving it lately. The protagonist, Alex Parrish, is framed for a terrorist attack on the Grand Central Station in New York, and it’s someone from her Quantico class. The first season is spent going through all of the students’ time in training, trying to piece together who it was that framed Alex.

There’s a 50% off sale on Banana Republic Canada’s website! I’ve already spent a lot of money on clothes this month so I’m not sure if I can justify buying more, but I recently bought this peplum sweater Banana Republic x Olivia Palermo Gathered Empire blouse and have been absolutely loving them both.

You will see this in an October haul post next week, but I ran out of hand lotion months ago and didn’t buy any replacements – until now. I purchased the Laura Mercier Little Indulgences hand lotion set and they are so luxurious.

Have a wonderful weekend! What has caught YOUR eye recently?

  1. Cold shoulder sweaters baffle me as well! If I’m wearing a sweater, it’s probably because it’s cold outside lol. It certainly looks cute but it’s just not practical. Same with those sweater tank tops – but that’s even worse!

I saw that Stila eyeshadow set in Shoppers!! Definitely give their Beauty Boutiques a look. Maybe even check the Beauty Boutique website!

    • I’m glad I’m not the only one confused by cold shoulder sweaters! Definitely impractical, especially in Canada 😛 lol the sweater tank tops are definitely worse! In what type of weather would a sleeveless sweater be appropriate?!

Oooh, thanks for the tip! I actually did visit the Shoppers near my work to see if they had the set, but they only had the singles. I guess that particular Beauty Boutique is smaller and has less selection. I will definitely check another location out, or at least the website!

  2. Hey, are those really your hands typing in that header photo? 😀

Love the MK flats and the Ted Baker purse!

I’m desperately looking for work clothes… you know how you go through cycles where everything looks worn out at the same time? That’s what’s happening with my closet. I don’t love this season’s style though – all the bold prints and frilly details are NOT my thing at all. I resorted to ordering a few basics off the Marks & Spencer site – I just ordered last night so fingers crossed they’re good.

I detest the cold should style! I associate it with trashy people, for some reason. 😡

I’m about to pull the trigger on a new hand bag, it’s actually an older style from Fossil – called the Sydney Satchel. Been wanting something roomier to throw all my stuff in!

Have you sat on one of those plastic ghost chairs for any length of time? They’re uncomfortable as HELL. My friend has them as her dining room chairs. I know it’s an aesthetic but… :/

Does it still feel weird to say “my husband”? 😉 Once I called my SO my husband and I almost choked… 😆

    • LOL, no XD

I keep waiting for Browns to have a sale so I can buy those shoes…but they rarely ever go on sale!

YES, I am going through the same thing with my closet! Plus I own a lot of camis/tanks and always need a cardigan or jacket to cover up, but sometimes I just want a long-sleeved blouse or sweater so I don’t have to worry about matching an outer layer, ya know? It’s so sketchy ordering clothes online, you never know how they’ll fit! But sometimes that’s the only choice…

LOL trashy people! I was so against the cold shoulder trend when it started, but the more I look at it, the more I like it – although I’ll probably not end up buying anything in that style, especially a cold shoulder SWEATER.

Oooh, I just looked up the Sydney Satchel and I love the shape! The quality of Fossil bags are so great – I used to own one and it lasted forever.

I’ve never actually sat in a ghost chair, but since we’re talking about it, yesterday I was sitting at my desk for 6 hours using some random fold-up chair we own, and I was thinking “this is really uncomfortable. The ghost chair is probably going to be worse”. I already bought a pillow to put on the seat of the ghost chair, but I don’t know if it’ll be comfortable :/ You’re making me second-guess everything, LOL!

It DOES feel weird! I’ve already told him a few times that I find it weird he’s my husband, even though nothing has changed.

  3. Aw thanks for mentioning me – I’m happy to have inspired you. I love doing these types of posts too – they’re so fun!

Bahaha yes cold shoulder sweaters are definitely a weird concept, especially where we live. I like the way they look on other people but not me for some reason. 😦

OMG that Ted Baker bag is to die for! And I LOVE that peplum sweater from BR – so adorable! I always look pregnant in peplum tops though. lol

Homesense had a ton of those ghost chairs in stock back in the Spring/Summer but I haven’t seen any of them there for a while – I love the look of them too but something to note is that they’re really slippery to sit in!

Loved reading this – I hope you continue on with doing these types of posts! 🙂

    • I’m so glad you’re not mad I ‘copied’ you haha! I absolutely love reading yours because I always discover all this cool stuff on there, and I find sometimes there are just random things I want to share that can’t make up a full blog post, ya know?

Haha I can’t imagine cold shoulders working in any situation in Calgary! They look weird on me too – like they don’t really fit quite right or something.

Hmm, good to know about finding ghost chairs at Homesense. I didn’t think about the slipperiness! Stashy also said they’re uncomfortable. I bought a white fluffy pillow to use with the chair but I don’t know if it’ll help. I’d rather get a cushy chair in an accent colour, but those are hard to come by, and expensive!

Thank you, I loved doing this post and will definitely continue them!
