July-September Empties

This is going up a tad later than I hoped for, but today’s post is on my empties from July-September! I don’t know why, but it always shocks me how few products I go through in 3 months, haha. In my mind, I always think I finish more than I actually do.

Joe Fresh Nail Polish Remover

As I said in my September Low-Buy post, I don’t have a particular go-to nail polish remover. This was the first time I used this Joe Fresh remover. It got the job done, but there was nothing that stood out about it, so I don’t think I’ll be buying it again.

Delon Premium Cosmetic Cotton Rounds

I’ve used these Delon cotton pads for years, and use them exclusively for removing my nail polishes. The pads have a rough side that I use to scrub the polish off – they’re especially good for glitter polishes. I get these in a bulk pack of 6 at Costco and it takes me almost two years to go through the whole pack since I only use 1-2 pads a week! I think this is only the first package out of the whole pack that I’ve used up.

Essie Grow Stronger Base Coat

I’m not technically done with this base coat, but it’s gotten so goopy that there’s no way I could use it anymore. I actually need to remember to pick up another base coat this week. I do really like this base coat – my nails used to peel, and they’ve stopped since I started using this. However, I’ve purchased this same base coat three times in a row, and would like to try something different. Any suggestions on good base coats that are easy to get ahold of?

Repurchase? Yes, but not right away.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Top Coat

This is my go-to top coat. It dries super quickly and is super shiny. Again, you can see that I’ve only finished half (!!), but it’s old and has gone too goopy to use. I also need to remember to pick up another one of these up this week.

Bath and Body Works Triple Moisture Body Cream in Beautiful Day

This was a body lotion that I had in my humongous collection of body lotions, which I’m slowly trying to use up. Beautiful Day is a fresh, fruity scent that I really liked for summer, but as with most body creams, I got sick of the smell after a while.

Bath and Body Works 24 Hour Moisture Ultra Shea Body Cream in Oahu Coconut Sunset

I received this as part of a Christmas present from a friend shortly after my fiance and I got engaged in Oahu – what a thoughtful gift! I liked this scent but didn’t LOVE it – it’s a little too “warm” for me. The Waikiki Beach Coconut line (which you’ll see beneath), is a fresher scent, which I prefer.

Bath and Body Works Peach & Honey Almond Shea Butter Body Scrub

This body scrub is from way back – I think I bought it back in 2014 and it has been sitting in my body care stash since. I really enjoyed this as an exfoliator because the exfoliants, which are tiny particles made up of walnut shell (powder), are very…scrubby – I mean, it feels like they do a really good job at exfoliating. I do have one more tube of these to use up, but I don’t think they make this same one anymore, as it was part of a special release back when I purchased it.

Repurchase? Discontinued 😦

Bath and Body Works Waikiki Beach Coconut Shea & Vitamin E Shower Gel

Okay, apparently I was on a BBW kick this summer. I bought a bunch of items in the Waikiki Beach Coconut scent, and this is the first one to be used up. This smells like summer in a bottle. I hope they bring back this scent next year!

Revlon Equave Instant Beauty Hydro Nutritive Detangling Conditioner (forgot to take a close-up of this!)

This has been a long-time favourite hair product of mine. Interesting, because I think they used to call it a leave-in conditioner, and now they call it a detangling conditioner. I find the new name more fitting, as I actually have always used it as a detangler after showering. Even though this is a Revlon product, I’ve only ever been able to find it at hair salons. The last few times I’ve bought this, I have wanted to try a different leave-in conditioner/detangler. I do have two backups of this that I’d like to finish using first, but I think I’ll get a different leave-in conditioner when I run out of those.

SAMPLES:

Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate

To be honest, I’m not 100% sure exactly what type of product this is (“Infusing Concentrate” is very vague, okay?), but I’ve been using this as a serum. Even though the Ultimune line is an anti-aging line and is not meant for my age group, I really like this product.  I pat it all over my face before applying my moisturizer, and it’s very hydrating and makes my skin feel smooth. It also smells like lemon candy…how could one not like it? I have maybe 10 more samples of this to use up, and the full size is quite pricey at $78, so I don’t think I’ll be purchasing it.

Purchase? No

Shiseido Perfect Cleansing Oil

I was really hoping that this cleansing oil would be just as good as the MAC Cleanse-Off Oil – not that I could replace one with the other since they’re both just as costly, but at least I could say that I finally found another cleansing oil that worked as well as MAC’s. This is probably one of the better cleansing oils I’ve tried, but it’s still not as good as MAC’s. I do have another sample size of these to go through, but I won’t be repurchasing in full.

That’s it for my empties from July to September! I’ve already finished some items in October, so maybe my Q4 empties will be bigger than usual!

  1. Yeah those Delon pads are great, aren’t they? I have to ask a co-worker (a dude) to buy those for me 😆
The base coat I swear by is Orly Bonder – I even have a salon size refill bottle. It doesn’t have any nail strengthening properties though. I use Orly Nailtrition in conjunction with it – I do like it a lot but I think the key thing with keeping my nails not peeling is putting hand cream on ALL THE TIME. I’m so bad at remembering to do that…
I really hate that Sally Hansen top coat! There was so much hype around it but it made my manis looks dirty / grimy, and it crackled as it wore through the week like the antiquing technique used in decoupage:

    😛
Yeah Waikiki Beach Coconut FTW! 😀 I saw at my BBW that they still carry this! And not on clearance – makes me wonder if it will be incorporated into their regular line? That Peach & Honey scrub sounds really good – too bad it was LE (like everything good)
Ugh I dislike that Shiseido cleansing oil – the smell!
    Awesome job with the empties!

    • Hehe! At least cotton pads are somewhat unisex…you’re not asking him to buy something feminine for you!
Hmm, where do you get Orly Bonder from? I can’t recall seeing whole Orly line being sold anywhere specific, except Winners every once in a while. I’m thinking I could probably start trying to use a base coat that doesn’t have strengthening properties, as my nails have gotten stronger since using that Essie base coat.
Yes, I remember you saying you hated the Sally Hansen top coat! It’s one thing if it was just a meh product for you, but it’s a whole other thing when it CRACKS on you like that! :O Funny how it could perform so badly on you, yet it’s my HG.
Sweet, it would be awesome if it was part of their regular line. Fingers crossed! I’m currently using a Waikiki Beach Coconut body scrub and it’s nowhere near as good as the Peach & Honey one.
Hmm, now I want to go home and sniff the Shiseido cleansing oil…I actually didn’t notice the scent at all!

      • I get the Orly Bonder from Sally Beauty Supply – do you have those out your way? And I believe that Orly still produces the Shoppers’ Quo nail polishes and they have Bonder but just called something else. Actually while I’m talking about Quo – I quite like their nail polish remover in the short little pump bottle, if you’re in the market for something else after you finish the Equate one you got! 🙂
The Shiseido oil just smells like old lady… 😛

        • Yep, we do have Sally’s, but I have to go out of the way to get to one! Maybe I’ll go check out the one at Shoppers first (good call on the Orly/Quo polishes), and then get the Orly Bonder the next time I’m near a Sally’s. I’ll also have to keep the Quo polish remover in mind. Thanks!
Lol! How did I not notice that? I was busy being unimpressed that it wasn’t as good as MAC, I guess.

    • Ohh, Barielle is a familiar name to me, but I don’t know if we can get their top coat here! Fast-dry ones are my favourite, then you can continue on doing whatever you need to without worrying about your nails.

  2. I get those cotton pads from Costco too – they’re fantastic! Such a good deal too!

I’d second Stashy’s recommendation for Orly Bonder, it’s a great base coat!

My favourite body scrub is by the Delectable (ie. Cake) Super Smoothing Body Polish, it smells so good and it has walnut shell powder in it too.

    • They ARE a good deal! What do you use the cotton pads for?
Oooh, I really have to try out the Orly Bonder now. Where do you get it from? I checked Shoppers last week and didn’t see it.
I’ll have to check out the Delectable body polish – you brought this line to my attention and now I keep eyeing it when I go to Superstore! Should probably get through some of my body products first, though 😛
