August Makeup Focus and July Update

Hello, beauties! This post is a week late, but I’ve been trying to enjoy my summer and thus haven’t been posting on my blog quite as frequently. Today’s post is all about the products I’m choosing to focus on in August, as well as an update on how I did with my July focus items.

For July, I wanted to focus on the Urban Decay Born to Run palette, which was really fun to play around with. It wasn’t the most usable palette for work, but it helped that I also had the Stila Shimmer & Glow liquid shadow in Kitten, which I used a lot for work. The blush I chose was the ColourPop Super Shock Cheek in Growth Flirt. Honestly, I can’t decide how I feel about this blush. I really loved the colour, but I found the texture to be super weird. The first two times I used it, I found it easy to use, but while using it in July, I found it hard to blend out using my fingers and difficult to pick up product using a brush. Either way, it worked for the month even though I wasn’t head over heels in love with the product. What I did enjoy was the Super Shock highlighter in Hippo. The lavender is such a pretty, unexpected highlight for the summer! The Physician’s Formula Murumuru Butter Bronzer remains one of my favourite bronzers ever, and I will probably continue using it in August. Actually, I would love to put this in a Project Pan at some point, if I can work up the diligence to do another Project Pan! The last makeup product I chose in my July focus was the MAC Fix+. I diligently rotated using these, and I just couldn’t pick a favourite scent. For skincare and body care, the La Roche Posay Anthelios Mineral SPF 50+ was in my focus because it was expiring in July. I really love this sunscreen because it’s non-greasy and has a slight tint so it doesn’t leave a white cast. However, I didn’t actually end up fully using it, so I ended up having to throw it out because it was expired. Finally, the Body Shop’s Pinita Colada body butter was the last item in my focus. I was hoping on using it all up this month, and I actually ended up being able to do that.

Now, onto the August products!

ColourPop Rendezvous Palette

I honestly haven’t worn this palette very often since purchasing it, although I originally bought it because I LOVE the colour story. Since this is a more colourful palette for me, I think summer is a good time to include it in my Makeup Focus.

ColourPop Salvaje Palette

The Rendezvous palette doesn’t really have enough neutral shades for an every day work look, SO I decided to add the Salvaje palette to the mix. I think with the two of these palettes together, I’ll be able to have a good mix of work shades for the weekdays and fun shades to play around with on the weekends.

ColourPop Super Shock Shadow in Wattles

While there are a few neutral shades in the Rendezvous palette, it doesn’t give me a ton of choices for an every day work basis. I’ve been really wanting to wear this shade, so I thought I’d pull it out this month as I think there are some shades that will work well with it.

Glossier Cloud Paint in Dawn

I purchased this shade in the spring and FINALLY I get to pull it out! This shade reminds me of a Miami sunset (even though I’ve never been to Miami), so it’s clearly the right choice for August.

Makeup Geek Highlighter in Midnight Sun

As diligently as I use sunscreen, I somehow still end up getting a little tanned in the summer. This soft golden shade is perfect for August, when my tan is at its peak!

MAC Cosmetics Lipstick in Twig

I was going to choose a brighter lipstick for August, BUT I was going through my lipsticks when I was taking a photo for National Lipstick Day, and I noticed that this lipstick has been significantly used up compared to all of the other lipsticks in my collection. Since I couldn’t really figure out a lipstick that I wanted to use this month, I thought it would be a good opportunity to try and use as much of Twig as possible. I also happen to own two of this shade, so it would be nice to use one up.

Becca Backlight Priming Filter

You GUYSSS after using this for exactly two years, I feel like I’m seeing the light at the end of the tunnel! This was featured in my Project Pan last year, but I wasn’t able to finish it up. I don’t know if I’ll be able to completely finish this bottle by the end of August either, but even if I don’t, I’ll be super close!

Bath & Body Works Waikiki Beach Coconut

You know what, I completely forgot I owned this perfume until a week or two ago! This is a limited-edition scent that my friend Stashy sent to me last year. This is my second bottle, it’s one of my favourite scents, and Stashy is actually the person that sent me my first bottle of this scent too! I’m really looking forward to using it this month, it’ll be a treat!

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

I’m really struggling to finish this up because I feel like it doesn’t do anything for my skin. With that being said, there’s so little left and I really want to use this up this month!

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

I’ve owned this deluxe sample for quite a while and I have only used it a small handful of times. It’s a really thin formula and I didn’t really like it for the winter. Now that it’s freaeking 30 degrees every day, I’m going to try it to see if it works out in warmer weather!

  1. Those two Colourpop palettes you’ve selected are super pretty, they look like they’d work well together too! Wattles is such a cute shade name 🙂 The water sleeping mask sounds interesting!

  2. Good luck with your August makeup focus! I’ve been eyeing the rendezvous palette in my collection too, I haven’t used it once since my review. Good idea to add in some neutral shades for it as well since you’ll be wearing it to work!

You’re so close to finishing that primer! Do you think you’ll repurchase it after it’s done?

    • Thank you! I know, I actually dug both of those palettes out for that reason. I feel so guilty when I have unused makeup in my collection!

There are a few more hydrating/glowy primers I want to try first, but the Becca one is definitely something I would repurchase eventually!

  3. I always love your photos but really loving the featured photo layouts of your blog as of late! (I’ve been out of the loop with the blogosphere so hoping to catch up with everyone’s blogs soon!)

I like that you still do these posts. I don’t really have a big enough collection to try and commit to these types of posts however I do have some products that I would like to see myself finish up this year or use more of!

At the moment, I’m still trying to use up 2 lipsticks but I think it’s going to be a difficult task seeing as I am into liquid lipsticks at the moment!
